Second entry of the year, and second visit for Tiffany and I to Penang. Last time was just 4 years ago, we were on our way to dive Pulau Weh in Indonesia. It was a short stop, and we saw nothing at all! So this time, I decided to do it finally properly.

The island is actually bigger than you think, mainly because it is often cloaked by traffic jams, making all move way more tedious than you wish they were! Most hotels are actually on the North Coast of the island, while the airport is in the South. There is a local bus to all these hotels from the airport, but he leaves only every to 60 to 80 minutes...I was not going to take that waiting time risk. So we ended renting a small car. Malaysian do produce local cars...and this was one of them....with one of the weirdest engine noise I every heard!

Great choice to rent a car for 48 hours. We had the freedom to get around, and we used it mainly the last morning, taking the back road of Penang all the way back to the airport. The East of the island is seriously developed, but once you are on the back road of the West side, it's back to the local rural that you meet all over Peninsula Malaysia.

Visiting the Old Town of Georgetown was clearly the highlight of our visit. We would not use the car to do so. Parking around the city is a nightmare, and the bus stop was just in front of the hotel, with a bus frequency every 10 minutes. We spent a full day in Georgetown. I have to admit, it was a gorgeous and very hot day! The place is simply amazing. Reminding me of places like Pondicherry or even Hoi an. We visited few temples as well as took some solid time to visit the Pinang Peranakan Mansion. Lunch was another amazing affair, this time in Little India! Tanya and I could do at least few times a week these kind of Indian lunches!

On our last morning, we woke up early to visit Entopia. It's a butterfly farm in the North-West of the Island. We spent a good two hours here. Millions of butterflies...gorgeous! But we also had the lizards, and a fun experience for three of us. It was the first time we could hold a scorpion in our hands...slightly stressful, but pretty much great fun!

For our stay this time, it was the Four Points by Sheraton. Not a lot to write about the hotel. It's a clean good deal at less than 60usd per night. Well, the ended up giving us their best suite, aka the Presidential suite as named by the staff. Basic hotel, so basic presidential suite, but it always feel good to be properly welcome for any stay. We did not spent a huge time at the hotel. Just have a look at the picture of the beach! Here you come for Georgetown or the butterflies....but not for the beach!
