We started the day with an early morning alarm in County Durham. We arrived at the airport for 4:30am and the plane finally departed (after a short delay on the runway!) at 6:45. It was Helen’s first plane ride and she was excited but scared. The plane stewards came round with cheese sandwiches and marble cake (which were lovely) and the time just flew over (pardon the pun!)

We arrived in Sweden at 11:30, the pilot announced over the speaker that Gotheburg was cloudy and rainy at 2 degrees - brrrr!! The airport was surprisingly empty, but very modern and it didn't take us long to get through and get our bags.

We took a taxi from the airport to the hostel, where we dropped our baggage off and went out to explore the area. We popped in the tourist information and took some leaflets of what we could do on the weekends. We then popped in the local supermarket and bought our dinner (on a budget!) Then we returned to the hostel, to cook and eat our meal together….

Katie and Paige discovered there was no oven for their mozzarella dippers, so Katie attempted to deep fat fried them and set the fire alarm off - independent living skills at their finest! *disclaimer - no one was hurt...

First impressions from the group:

Helen: The Swedish speak excellent English and everyone looks like a model.

Paige: Surprised at how cold it is and Gothenburg is very busy.

Abbey: Lots of trees and the plates on the wall of the airport were weird!

Ce’Nedra : Hotel a lot larger than expected, the rooms are spacious but cosy. Everything Ikea looking.

Katie: Impressed with the designs of everything, very geometric. Everyone’s very polite.

We are looking forward to exploring the city more tomorrow and seeing some attractions before start the programme on Monday... The weather forecast isn't very good so we are planning a trip to the Universeum Museum :-)

Bye for now!
