Day Three – Adelaide, SA

After the third terrible night's sleep in a row, we were up for bacon, eggs, mushrooms, etc and then the drive to Adelaide. Dad didn't have much more then 100 km of fuel and we were no better. The map assured us that the next town would have fuel. Unfortunately the town consisted of a road sign – no more!

The next town supposedly had fuel and a supermarket etc, etc, however once we arrived we found that fuel is only available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. WTF??? So Dad used his jerry to top up and we sucked in the guts and tried to feel as light as possible as the needle dipped below empty (no warning lights in a '91 Maverick).

We ended up in some town called Murray something where we fueled up and I found that the fuel gauge is a liar as I put in 86 litres to fill but I have a 95 litre tank. Worried for nothing.

First night of the trip in a caravan park. The mad daughter went for a swim in the lukewarm pool, the kids gave the playground a good flogging and we all showered (not together) and had a good feed before the wind and rain set in. F'ing wind. Sent me up the wall and then the rain in the morning just to give us the shits was making for some unhappy campers!

Day Four – Adelaide, SA

Today we spent the morning washing the clothes, did some homework and then took some advice from the great AJ Russell and hit up McLaren Vale's wineries. A nice day tasting and buying and also having a crack at the Maxwell maze (I won the time trial but the boy got line honours) capped off a nice afternoon.

That evening my crew headed off the to the Russell residence for tea and biscuits – and a roast on the Webber. The old bloke did very well with an ever challenging lump of beef! The kids seemed to have fun and the adults talked the ears of the local corn, swapping stories of our dodgy upbringings and generally praying our kids are not half as bad as we were growing up.

Back to the caravan park in Grandad's taxi and in for the fourth night of wind/rain and shithouse sleep. FFS. I was up taking the trailer/tent half apart to shut the thing up from rattling with the wind. Grrrrrr.

Earplugs
Ffs Mick, at the next town pop into the sports shop and get yourself a pair of earplugs that you might use in a pool. The best thing ever and have gotten me through adult sons late night training sessions as well as smoothie making!
