I am watching my Dad Al Marcotte in his last stage of life. He entered hospice a week ago. We were told he had two days but Dad has a different idea. Dad has had Alzheimers for more than ten years. He has had the best care while living at home by his wife and caregivers. He is on oxygen and is given small amounts of morphine to help him breathe and to keep him feeling comfortable. One of his caregivers Tashie has decided to stay with Dad until he passes even though he has a wife and children at home. He is being bathed, shaved and rubbed with lotion and Vics Vabor Rub. There is music playing and he sleeps in a king bed that has room for his wife and anyone else to lay next to him. We have been holding vigil for eight days since he has come home from the hospital. Robin has traveled from San Diego, Meagan from Las Vegas and Christopher and Rachel from Kansas City to visit with him before he passes. Other family and friends have taken the opportunity to visit. Ryan another of Dad's long time caregiver was here too.

He made his last journey on August 11, he was 90 years old. His services will be at Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland on Thursday August 25 for viewing and visitation from five to eight. The funeral mass, internment and reception will start at 1:30 pm. All services will be held at the Cathedral, 2121 Harrison Street, Oakland. All wishing to say Bon voyage to my Dad and fellow traveler are welcome.
