We are about half way on our tour through Sicily. Our last stop in Armerina we had to park our car in a very small street, very busy with trough fare traffic. In the morning I was flabbergast to find the car back without a scratch. Quickly the luggage back in the boot and of we went. On the way to Siracusa. The roads were very bad. Lots of pot holes and broken up shoulders. Very heavy loaded trucks that stopped us from making progress. We stopped at a very big service station that even had an automatic car wash. Well if you could have seen our car, unbelievable. Full of pigeon shit when we parked in this small street. They should tell those birds to leave tourist cars alone. Anyway the car wash cleaned most of shit of. We continued our journey to Siracusa and arrived at our next B+B called Nostos. Checked in and found a park so there was enough time to have a look at the old part of the city. Siracusa is divided in the old city, where the harbour is and an Archeologically on the other, more inwards. We walked into the old place that
was packed with tourists. We looked at a few interesting sides and landed at a nice place close to the sea where we had an enormous ice-cream that sat in a Pine apple cone. The Pine apple was hollowed out and than filled with all sorts of fruit and ice cream, that again topped up with cream. Our mouth fell open when the waiter served this up. He had a smile on his face looking at us. Next day we went to the Archaeological side to see that part. Well the Italian street signs are not very clear for we saw lots of people looking for t. But we found it. Payed the entrée fee and bought a hat for Liz, it was very hot. At the entrance was a grave of a Viking. They were there as well in the years 1000-1100. Interesting. The Roman Theatre was from 21 B.C. A bit further is the Greek Theatre that one is still in use. On the top of that you have an amazing few over Siracusa and the Mediterranean. On the way out we found the Quarry. It is now an enormous grotto. They used the material out of this
to build the roads. It was time to go. Liz bought a few souvenirs. For the price of one Euro per person we took the bus back. For teat we landed in a small kebab café where we had chicken kebab. Finished the day having an ice-cream on the way. Next will be Mount Etna that will be another day.

Hi Alfons en Liz
Jullie hebben toch weer een prachtige trip door Italie. De roots van de familie Copini! De geschiedenis is daar nog genoeg zichtbaar. Gezien de foto's die jullie hebben gemaakt. En uiteraard het reisverslag heb ik tot nog toe met genoegen gelezen. De moderne tijd is nog niet overal in Italie binnengekomen. Veel plezier verder! En pas op bij de Etna! Vuurgevaarlijk!
