From Jerez de la Frontera to Cadiz...

Sometime, it's all about going left and right a little. First stop for us, is the white city of Cadiz....we are on our way to Gibraltar. Jerez de la Frontera was not on the plan till my Mum asked me if we were going to see the Equestrian show. Well, I had no idea about it...so google it...and found out we could attend the show...but would have to spend two hours more on the road few days later. The Equistrian Show is not happening everyday, so a little more planning was expected.



So for once, I'm breaking the rule of...a blog a day...this time, we give you Cadiz and Jerez where we spent few hours each in the middle of the day, on two separate days. On arrival to Cadiz, a huge cruise ship was in port...good news for us, we found pretty fast that they were already on the way out.



Cadiz doesn't have a lot to offer to the tourist when you compare the city to a place like Seville. But that's actually part of the charm. The white city center is surrounded by 3 sides by the Atlantic ocean. It is white buildings on blue water and huge city walls above the water.



We walk around and had a simple lunch of some of the best paella we would get around. Here, as in many places around, they cook a huge pot of paella in the morning, and you simply get a plate of it as long as it last. We did the arroz negro and the more traditional one. Not much wine here, I still had to drive to Algeciras that late afternoon. The city of Cadiz was empty of tourists, just a gorgeous place to spend an afternoon walking around and holding hands.



Few days later, we were back in the area for few hours in Jerez de la Frontera. Sadly, you cannot take any pictures during the show. These horses are simply amazing...so much work to get there! The show last 90 minutes, and you can walk the grounds for the same ticket. Enjoy the pictures.....the one with the horses give you just a small idea of the beauty of the show.



After this, we walked to Sandeman....Jerez being the capital of Sherry. Our timing was too tight for a full visit. But we had a chat with the guide and in 5 minutes I learnt a lot about the process. I have never before tasted a Sherry. We bought a small bottle to taste later on....and I have to admit, we are not a fan of it at all...Sherry won't be on tap at home anytime soon.



There was even less tourists in Jerez than there is in Cadiz. The city is not that gorgeous, but it was our last visit without an invasion of tourists, so you can guess, I may sound repetitive, but one more paella for lunch, as tomorrow night, we would be in a plane, to the North.



I have to admit this blog has been written a little on the run. Lots of fun is happening here during July. We were in Cadiz nearly 20 days ago, so yes, I'm also late on blogging. Hopefully, my spelling and grammar is not too bad on this blog.
