First a quick addendum to yesterday's post. Nit picked me up at 7.30pm and took me to yet another khmer restaurant and surprised me with an entre of boiled bats. I can safely say it wasn't quite the surprise I would have been looking for but when in Battambang etc... anyway the upshot is that boiled bat is, in my opinion at least, nasty, so poor Nit was left to finish the plate on his own. The lok lak, fried beef with tomato and onion and an egg on top, on the otherhand was delicious.

And now for a bit of unashamed advertising, if you find yourself in need of a tuktuk driver to see the sights around Battambang then phone Nit 099 580655 and he'll see you right.

So, on to today, I was to have taken a boat across the Tonle Sap to Siem reap but sadly the boat doesn't leave for another 2 days so I had to take a minibus instead with Mekong express. It was only $6us so I saved about $15 on the boat ride. The bus was clean, fairly new, and was air-conditioned. The bus drivers don't hang around so 3 air-conditioned hours later I was dropped in the centre of Siem reap and immediately descended on by a horde of tuktuk drivers but shooed them off and 10 minutes later a very apologetic guy turned up from the Lovely Family Guesthouse with my name on a bit of paper, bundled me into his tuktuk and we were off. I stopped just long enough to drop my pack and walked into the centre of town to have a look around and get a bit of lunch. The centre of things appears to be a street called Pub Street, are you getting the picture? You have to fight your way past the burger bars, Mexican, Italian, Tex-Mex, pizza restaurants etc to find a Khmer place and when you do they charge twice what they did in Battambang.

It has apparently been fine here for the last 2 days but has just started pouring down. I hope that's not a sign as I have a 4.30am appointment with a tuktuk driver to watch the sun come up over Angkor Wat in the morning.
