Goats on the BusGoats on the BusGoats on the Bus

Can you tell whats wrong with the picture?...
Picked up from the hotel by the grumpy taxi driver - not a happy chappy! Were dropped at the Varanasi roadways bus station to start a very long and dusty bus journey to Sonauli. Unless you have experienced the local bus journeys in India, it is really hard to appreciate what a 10 hour journey feels like! It only cost 172 Rps (about 2 GBP), but was quite hard work. The first part of the journey was fine, but ended up having to change bus at Ghorkapur, which we didn't really understand and finally got the message after the guy waved at us for the 10th time! Transferred onto a really busy bus with our big bags - was really crazy and busy! Had people climbing / sitting / standing / sleeping on our bags, were squashed into very small seats and surrounded by people constantly gobbing out of the window! (Yum!). A lot of the people eat some red concoction that turns their mouth, tongue and teeth red and causes them to spit for about 3 hrs afterwards!

Really glad to have arrived - albeit exhausted, into Sonauli and crossed the border into Nepal. It was great to see some of India, but would definitely head out of the main cities if we go back as they were all mad!

As soon as we crossed into Nepal we were mobbed by a rickshaw driver and a dope head tout who was completely stoned and tried to sell us bus tickets and drugs. Stayed in a haven of peace 'Prakesh and Prakesh', which was a welcome relief away from the madness of the border town! It's a good idea to book your bus onto Kathmandu the night before (about 300 Nepalese Rupees) - is much easier to just get on a tourist bus.

Was good to experience the local bus journey, but were really glad when it was over and we could get clean. When we took off our glasses there were clean parts of skin that the dirt couldn't get to!
