On our way to the Yukon! Departure time is 8:15.

First photo stop at Summit Lake, which is the highest point on the Alaska Highway. Another beautiful shade of blue. The water certainly felt cold to the touch, but not frigid. We have seen snow piles along the roadside.

Heading toward Toad River. The lodge there boasts a collection of over 8000 hats from all over the world, nailed to the walls and ceiling. We filled up with gas here and were shocked that it cost $1.32/liter - that's equivalent to $5.00/gallon. We then converted the Canadian amount to the US dollar. But, YIKES!! It's a whole lot of money to fill a 55 gallon tank!

Next stop... Muncho Lake ("big lake" in the Kaska language). The rest area overlooking the lake was beautiful, but not well marked on the highway. We stopped there and fixed lunch, Sally's delicious taco soup and hotdogs.

30 miles down the road is the Liard River Hot Springs Provincial Park, the second largest hot spring in Canada. WOW! Hot was an understatement! The sulfur smell was not overpowering, but 10 minutes was long enough to ablute our bodies.

Last stop... Watson Lake, "Gateway to the Yukon". We are overnighting at Tags RV Park, Convenience Store, and Café. Thought it was an exceptional deal until we realized there is no internet or cable. You get what you pay for...

So the Moores and the Babbs will rely on each other for entertainment. Happy hour, followed by a sumptuous dinner of grilled pork chops, tossed salad, and baked beans. Then a walk to the Signpost Forest to add our signs to the 75,000 plus signs left by other visitors, a tradition started in 1942 by a homesick soldier in the US Army who worked on constructing the Alaska Highway. Dessert at "Kathy's Kitchen".

Today's animal count: 10 bison, 3 black bear, 3 Stone's sheep, horses, birds, 1 skunk and 1 dog
