Xi'an has always been on my list of the places to visit around the world. The main reason is for the Terracotta Army that I used to watch, since I was a child, on TV. Xi'an is the ancient capital of China named Chang'an and is still one of the most preserved walled cities allover China. Xi'an is fantastic and very easy to walk around exploring the sightseeings and, as a city, my favourite in China.
About the center my favourite sight is the fortress which I visited walking on top and taking beautiful pictures of the area.
I am happy to see that, at least in Xi'an, the history is still there and that they care about the past unlike it happened in many other cities in the country. In the 19th century, China was revolutionized and, this, changed the mentality of people at that point that they saw what was the ancient buildings and old traditions as an enemy and wanted to make space to modernity. So, I am happy to see that such a beautiful city like Xi'an is yet maintained with its beautiful and ancient history.
As I said, the main reason, I came
here was for the " 兵马俑" the Terracotta Army which I have always dreamed of in the past.
This site is far away from the city, it is situated to the northeast of Xi'an in a district called "临潼区" the Lintong district. It took about two hours to get there. As always in these kind of archaeological sites there are a huge amount of tourists and I expected that. Once inside, there was a beautiful garden with a lot of flowers and very clean. Basically, there are three pits in this archaeological site. I entered in the first one which is the biggest. Despite the enormous amount of people, as I entered and saw this magnificent site I was awestruck.
I admired, finally in person, these lines teeming with the amazing Terracotta soldiers. The characteristic of these soldiers are that each one has got a different facial expression and has a ranked position in the army. There were also Chariots, horses, archers, and officers that completed the whole mausoleum. This mausoleum was made to build by the Qin Dynasty emperor to accompany him to the after life. The Emperor Qi Shi Huang was the first emperor of the
Qin Dynasty (221 BCE - 206 BCE). A short lasted dynasty that unified the whole country for the first time.
There were also other two pits but much smaller and with not many unearthed objects on display. Outside of the sites there was a factory where these soldiers are produced as souvenirs.
It was an immense pleasure to have visited this place after so many years of waiting and it was for sure one of the most interesting sites ever visited in my life.
