We are both exhausted from Coachella and the drive over to Las Vegas and so we chill out for the morning. Hugh has some work to do and i have some emails to answer and so we get down to it.
Decide to take a drive out to The Strip later on that afternoon, as we come out of the apartment and drive onto the main road that is the actual strip! We are between Wynn and Circus Circus so the north end, but still really close to everything! Drive around for a bit and go up to the top where downtown and the old bit is. Then we drive back to the apartment, abandon the car and go for a walk. Get something to eat at Dennys as we are both starving by now and start to walk the strip. Pop into one hotel, and take a look around, the opulence is stunning. Everything is huge and you can see it's expensive! There are shops lining the hall as you walk in and they are all top designer ones. Prada, MK, Cartier and all the others to tempt you as you walk in. Walk a bit further
to the casino itself and watch a few games being played, but to be honest, I find it really boring! Have a look at the buffet dinner, but it is $45 each and I know i will never eat that amount of food plus the line is huge! We walk a bit further and you just can't describe the sheer scale of the size of the hotels. They are monsters! You'd probably get two of these on Oxford St and that would be it! Ask about getting tickets for Cirque du Soleil in the ticket booths, but they only do the higher range tickets at discount. Hugh spots a Margaritaville, which is owned by Jimmy Buffet, who wrote Wasting away again in Margaritasville. I've never heard of him! We are told that there will be a show in a little bit, so we stop and have a cocktail. The menu is full of Margaritas! All different ones. But they are so expensive! Anyway, we stop and have a drink and wait for the show. It comprises of 2 guys and a girl in stilts singing Margaritaville. Then a girl dressed as a mermaid comes out and does an aeriel show
on a fish hook! But it's fun to watch and we get to sit and chill for a bit as we've been walking quite a lot.
We walk a bit more and look at the hotels, the opulence is so over the top it's unreal. They definitely believe in bigger is better. It's mad how big everything is. Also, how expensive everything is to. The shows are great, but we have the same thing in the west end for a quarter of the price. And we are sick of fast food to. You can't get proper food here. Forget alternative milks or gluten free! It just doesn't cater for that. The food is ok, but for what you pay it's not worth the price! And the really good restaurants are extortionate prices and all booked out! I think Hugh & I have already decided that Vegas isn't for us! I'm glad we came, but I think it's not somewhere we feel the need to return to. Unless there's a particular show we want to go to, but then I'm sure they will tour at some point so we'll see them then!
