Breakfast beachside again followed by a day of "free styling" as Fred calls it. My nose is peeling and so is the top of Fred's head...another day of slathering sunscreen before we go swimming.
We visited Robin at the local firehouse which is adjacent to the airport because it serves that and the rest of the island with two crews...one of which is dedicated to the trucks serving the airport. All their trucks are made in the US and are tankers carrying desalinated water. The island has a few hydrants but the water pressure is so low, they're useless. They have a Boston Whaler they use as a rescue boat with twin 100 hp outboards...Robin says they need a bigger boat and are waiting to see what the British government gives them. We met all the guys and chatted about they work...mostly fires at the town dump and people burning stuff after cleaning up their yards...guess that's how they take care of the dead palm fronds and sea grape leaves. We talked about the fatal car crash they had here last Dec...found two victims and didn't know there was a third body under the vehicle until a local man said
there were 3 guys together that day. They'd been drinking at a local bar, the bar tender drove them home and they got into another vehicle and hit the road...literally. They smashed into a tree, the car went end over end and just about broke in half....so sad.
We promised to stay off the cliffs today and would do our best to be sure we didn't see them again for the duration of our stay. We headed east on the south shore road and stopped at the bat cave...no fruit bats there today but its a cool place...interesting rock formations. Went to our swimming hole, it was low tide but had some chop making it interesting...the current kept moving us west. Left there and stopped at Brac Reef Beach resort for beers, frozen margaritas, jerk wings and fries....great food....fun time harrassing friends with texts and photos....you guys were good sports about it....finished off lunch with a piece of key lime pie.....perfect lunch!!!
Back to the cottage to shower, relax, catch up on emails, etc. The renters came today that are staying in the apartment in the main house...they're a young couple from Italy. Hank was here to make
sure everything was ok and told us the wind would be ramping up overnight and tomorrow...he'll be checking on the boat at high tide. We had planned on dinner at Coral Isle Club but when we drove up to it, it was dark...ran out of food??? Went back to Brac Reef for shrimp curry and Mahi tacos....good food once again. Chatted with a couple from California...the wife was very interested in Fred's job offer....thought it was a great opportunity. We watched UCONN girls in the final game of the final four...looks like they're going to clobber Syracuse. We went home during the half, finished watching the game at the cottage...so cool to see them win their fourth title!!!
The wind is really blowing...look out for falling coconuts!!!
I've posted 27 photos to this blog entry so be sure to check them all out....you can click on "Additional photos below" and it'll take you right to them.
