What's the one thing we said we didn't want to do in the kayak???????

We made breakfast at the cottage...bacon, etc all imported from the U.S.....the 12 oz package of Eight O'Clock ground coffee won't last very long but it sure tasted good. Forgot to get Bailey's for our coffee...will have to see how expensive it is...the large bottle of Yellow Tail wine we bought here was $22.75...crazy!!! We sat out on the upstairs deck off our bedroom...in the shade, nice breeze and view of the Caribbean Sea...perfect! Fred did the kitchen cleanup, and we decided now was the best time to call our car insurance company and file a claim. The Magic Jack app worked well, the insurance company took all the pertinent info and said a claims person would contact us within two business days...well at least he didn't say we weren't covered. Time to move on!!!

We put on our bathing suits and headed out. This time we took the cross island road near our cottage and got a nice view from the top of the bluff. Our final destination was old Buccaneer Hotel site on the north shore. The hotel is long gone, but they had cut into the rocky shore creating a tidal salt water swimming pool. Someone had installed a ladder to make getting in easier. It is deep enough for a shallow dive...at least 7' deep. The site reminds us a little of The Bubbly Pool on Jost Van Dyke but lacking the long walk to get there and also the sandy beach and crashing waves. The water is crystal clear with some fish...just beautiful!!! We had the place to ourselves for most of our stay until a couple from California showed up. Small world...the guy grew up in Simsbury and now most of his family lives in Old Lyme...wow. His Dad's has had chronic Lyme disease for 8 years now...can't seem to get rid of it. We chatted about snorkeling on Brac, the caves, Caymanite jewelry and the bars/restaurants in the area. We both agreed its spooky not seeing other people on the beaches or swimming or kids playing. It is spring vacation so schools are closed but still we've seen only two kids since we got here. The lady at Billy's grocery store told us families do go to Little Cayman for this week so maybe things will be different next week.

We had lunch at the cottage...leftover jerk chicken quesadillas from last night and beer. We lounged under one of the gazebos, enjoying the good breeze...definitely more windy than yesterday. I emailed the owner to find out where the paddles for the kayak were located and if we could use the spa on our bedroom deck. She repsonded right away...yes we could use the spa and the paddles were near the kayak....I found them tucked up in the ceiling of one of the other gazebos...there are 3 on the property. We carried the kayak to the end of the concrete pier and put her in the choppy water. It's all rocky around there with those evil sea urchins lurking under the rocks...we had our water shoes on just in case. I got in first taking the bow seat, then Fred got in the stern seat behind me and we started pushing our way off the pier, started heading out to sea when all of a sudden I hear..."shit, shit, oh shit" and over we go. "Ouch, Ouch, oh shit, ouch". I'm stuck under the kayak trying to get out and not put my hand on a sea urchin. I finally got my footing, shoved the boat off of me and stood up. Fred's asking me if I'm ok...yes...are you ok? His hand is scraped and bleeding, so's my foot. We found my camera inbetween the rocks, its an underwater camera so no worries.

We decided it best if he get in first, then me and it worked much better. Off we go into the chop, heading into the wind and to the east end of the island. The water closest to shore is a greenish color, then it becomes the shade of turqoise that you see in all the Caribbean photos but then it changes to a cobalt or royal blue....never saw that before. I took a photo trying to capture it but it doesn't do it justice. We saw it clearly from the plane when we flew into Brac...just beautiful. Fred's legs were starting to cramp, just couldn't get comfortable so we turned around to go back. Easy now going with the wind. We got out no problem, pulled the kayak up to the beach, rinsed off and crossed kayaking off our list of things to do!!!!!

We showered, chilled then headed to Barry's Golden Jerk for take out dinner. Yes...he was open and we met Barry himself...Fred introduced us

there's an apartment on the first floor and the owners have the second floor all to themselves. They're not on island full time.
to him and Barry said we were beautiful people...did I mention Barry was handsome with a great smile??? Tonight he had jerk chicken and pork with the smokers going outside his little roadside stand, so we decided to get one serving of each. He hacked away at the meat with a cleaver, putting it into styrofoam containers, adding his special sauce, tomato sauce and a slice of round bread from the local bakery...daroool, daroool, daroool!!! Barry asked how we heard about him, I decided not to go into deal about Trip Advisor and just said I'd read about him. He's been cooking jerk for 20 years but his full time job is a builder and property management. Fred told him about his job interview and Barry said "you'll get the job and call me when you do and say hey man I got the job"...nice man...did I mention he was handsome with a great smile???

Ate our dinner outside under the gazebo, washed down with the big bottle of Yellow Tail Sauvignon Blanc and two candles lighting our tiny table. The sunsets here seem to happen a lot faster than at home, tonight wasn't real showy but we weren't complaining. We had the whole shoreline to ourselves...no neighbors for miles...the only sound was the crickets and the waves gently rolling in....truly paradise. Freddie got his cell phone and used the Skyview app...we found the constellations Orion, Taurus, Aries, Gemini, Ursa Major and Minor and probably more that I forgot....so cool!!!

So I can honestly say this is our first really awesome day on vacation.
