Day 1 Paris – 8th Arrondissement (Part 1 of 3): Pont Alexandre III, Grande Palais, Petite Palais

The 8^thArrondissement is located on the right bank of the river seine. In this part, I visited:

· Pont Alexandre III

· Grande Palais

· Petite Palais

Pont Alexandre III

We crossed this bridge on the way from the airport to my hotel, but this time I crossed it on foot. I did like all the ornate statues and plaques on the bridge, even though I’m not really a fan of gold.

The bridge, with its lamps, cherubs, nymphs and winged horses at either end, was built between 1896 and 1900. It is named after Tsar Alexander III, who had concluded the Franco-Russian Alliance in 1892.

Grand Palais

I headed north from the bridge and went past the Grand Palais. Because I was still enjoying being outside, I decided not to go in, and that I would see inside another day (which I never got to do – it’s on my bucket list).

The Grand Palais des Champs-Élysées, commonly known as the Grand Palais is an exhibition hall and museum. Construction of the Grand Palais began in 1897.

Petite Palais

Across the road from the Grand Palais is the Petit Palais, which is much smaller than it’s larger cousin across the road

The Petit Palais (small palace) is an art museum in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, France. It was built for the (universal exhibition), and is now the City of Paris Museum of Fine Arts (Musée des beaux-arts de la ville de Paris).
