Actually, this was my second golf day. I shipped my clubs here via Shipsticks which may have been a mistake. I think I may have saved a few bucks by just dropping them off at UPS or FedEx to be shipped. For around $165 for the 5 day shipping option, which turns out to be a full 7 day week because 5 days are business days. Anyway, they arrived a day late. It didn't really matter, but it kind of made me mad for the money it cost. I played the Kapalua Plantation Course on Saturday. This is a PGA Tour course on which Jordan Spieth won in January. I was paired up with two guys from Kansas City. I misread the score card and thought we were playing it at about 6,100 yds. After about 5 holes and saying to them that this is the longest 6, 000 yards I've ever played, they told me that no, we're playing it at the tees that make it about 6,800 yds. Well with the many large elevation changes and slopes to the fairways, I was in for a butt-whipping by the course. It was a beautiful day and a very beautiful course,
Kapalua Plantation Course
Don't remember what hole. but next time I'm playing it up one set of tees.
So today I played the Bay Course at Kapalua. Believe it or not, I played this course 38 years ago on my honeymoon. It's a somewhat easier course than Plantation and I think even more beautiful. The 4th and fifth holes are right on the cliffs overlooking Honolua Bay and the surfers. I was paired with a guy from Bloomington, IL and a couple from Calgary, Alberta. They were all friends and spend a lot of time on Maui and play golf 3 days a week here. We played the course at about 6,000 yds and it was much more enjoyable than the previous round. They were all very friendly and nice people to play with.
These courses have a lot of elevation changes, as I've already stated. I was playing fairly well, too. Well, when we got to the 15th hole, my cart partner said that it is a split fairway with a creek winding through the length of the hole. He said it plays shorter to the left side and since I was driving the ball pretty good today, I hit
it to the left half of the fairway. My cart partner hit it to the right side. When we drove up, he mentioned to me that I would have a long walk to my ball. That's when I realized it was the only par four on the course where carts are restricted to the cart path. I was a good 130 yds from the cart path. my ball was about 160 yds to the green and very uphill. He asked me if I would like to use his range finder and I said, no, I'll just bring a couple clubs and figure out the yardage when I got to my ball. I started my trek and he hit his shot while I was walking to my ball. I hit my shot left of the green and when I looked up, he was gone. I thought to myself, WTF! He drove the cart up near the green. I had no choice but to start climbing what was the biggest hill on the course. It seemed like 500 feet straight up. The rest of the group was hitting their shots around the green and I finally arrived at my ball, huffing and
puffing with my calf muscles on fire with pain. My ball sat 15 yards left of the green on a hill. There I stood with a 5 and 6 iron in my hands, hardly the clubs for a 15 yards pitch shot and also no putter by the way. My cart partner totally ignored me and my predicament, so I picked up my ball, threw it on the green and gave myself a two-putt 5. I was a little hot at him for not waiting for me to come back to the cart or at least suggest that I bring a bunch of clubs to walk the whole hole.
On the next tee I was still burning and crushed my drive about 30 yards past him. That's also when I decided that I wouldn't be having a drink in the clubhouse with them.
Other than that little incident, I had a great time on a great golf course.

I remember seeing that course , looks so picturesque ! That golf cart partner sounds like a real jagweed . You should have exacted revenge - ha ha . I would have saved dough by using rentals , likely same unfortunate result .
