We boarded the P&O Lines, Pacific Pearl, in Sydney Harbour. Although Marlene has had many boat trips and sailing adventures, it was her first "cruise."

It looked to be a tight fit under the Harbour Bridge...reminded us of a few low bridge clearances we had on Gust O'Wind.

Being Sunday, the Harbour was alive with boats of all shapes and sizes. Many of the small sailboats delight in near misses with ferries and big ships like us...earning a horn blast is the reward.

I had a nostalgic moment here....it was 48 years ago that I last sailed out of Sydney Harbour on the P&O Liner, Canberra, on my way to Canada.

We re entered the Harbour early in the morning of the 26th for Australia's national holiday.

Consumed on deck while enjoying the action on the Harbour. Washed down with a beer of course!

The best way to see the Harbour is by ferry, used by many to commute to work...they had a race category to themselves.

The captain of this Manly Fast Ferry had his hands full dodging oncoming traffic...bet he missed his schedule.

A few tall ships that offer Harbour cruises had their own races in slow motion.

These are the ones I remembered from the 1960s....I thought they were fast until I saw the new version sailed today...see pic. 3.

The Jewel is an identical twin sister of our ship, the Pearl.

The food aboard was excellent as was the company!

The Pearl was all decked out for the occasion and activities included meat pie eating, a thong toss (translation: flip flops!) prawns and plenty of beer...great fun!

Our ship was perfectly positioned to take in the spectacular fireworks display, made all the more dramatic by the magnificent Harbour....a great ending to a memorable day!
