Last day in Trinidad and off to the airport

A Russian jeep took us up into the hills surrounding Trinidad where we enjoyed great views over the Caribbean coast. Next was a visit to a museum of coffee which in reality was nothing more than a few old piccies in a garden shed, where we saw how the Cubans used to dry, roast and grind coffee and then sampled some – good job Roger had already explained this otherwise we would have been lost. We then had a gentle hike through a coffee plantation and on to a waterfall and pool where a group of German tourists were swimming and making a lot of noise. The Waylors don’t do noisy tourists so on we walked through peaceful and beautiful forests to our chicken lunch and back home for shopping in the market. And yes the twinnies went totally overboard bargaining like it was going out of fashion and a kiss to seal the bargain.

In the evening we were welcomed back to a favourite restaurant where it was the usual diet of cocktails and food and afterwards we found a table near a fabulous open-air band and watched salsa dancers, some local other tourists. A great way to say goodbye to Trinidad.

Health status of Waylors: Suzanne now OK having taken diarrhoea tablets; Malcolm has gut trouble plus a cold; John has twinged his back on the waterfall walk; Dianne is fighting fit

Punctual as ever, our car picked us up in Trinidad and drove us to the outskirts of Trinidad to see what’s left of a sugar plantation estate. They certainly knew how to live these sugar barons. Then we drove on to Santa Clara to see Che Guevara’s mausoleum (he is certainly held in reverence by Cubans), get medicine for Malcolm and then after a substantial lunch it was off to the airport in Havana.

Loved the final round up, glad to have you all home safe and sound and in one piece, despite a few health issues picked up along the way!!

fighting fit!
Very impressed that you stayed fighting fit to the end, Muz. But then again, I'm not surprised, having seen you clean up after many, many family Norovirus outbreaks and only once coming down with it yourself. It sounds like a fabulous trip, and the perfect time to end it, too. ;-) Now that Rob and I are full-on coffee geeks, I think we would have enjoyed both the Costa Rican coffee and also the Trinidad coffee "museum." Rob and I really enjoyed this blog, thanks for keeping it so lively and full of pics! xox
