We took a two and a half hour bus trip to the beach town of Puerto Armuelles. The road actually travels into Costa Rica for several miles. No passenger checks, there is a guard house and some barrels making the road appear like somewhat of a gate. I just saw the border personnel look into various cars and wave people through.
It was rainng lightly most of the day but we didn't plan on swimming, not too keen on battlping under tows and rip tides. We passed more industrial areas but some farms and very modest homes along the way. There is quite a bit of road construction so the area must be booming. There are buses every 15 minutes and ours was standing room and packed at times.
The town made an effort to put a walking water front boardwalk of sorts and there is a long pier extending quite a distance out into the Pacific. If this pier was in North America it would be blocked off and condemed. This did not deter Jerry from walking out to almost the end, I waited at the beginning.
The little town is bustling with it's venders resembling the
city of David on a smaller scale. We could not get over all the garbage strewn everywhere including the beach. They must not have good pick up service. Never a shortage of restaurants to choose from even if they all serve the same thing. As long as you have, a covered area in front of your house, a couple of tables and chairs, you are a restaurant. We chose a more upscale one and paid $4.50 a plate instead of $2.50. We have discovered that all red meat is very tough because it is incredibly lean. We are left with chicken, pork and fish, fine with us we don't eat much red meat.
We did our usual walk around the town meeting people who stop to speak to us, they are friendly here because there is a large expat community. Many people speak a little English. A lady bought us a beer at a bar and tried to sell us some land, we think. A horse rider came charging by the bar, along the beach, just gallopping along with no sadle just some blankets.
Nice place to visit, I wouldn't want to live there.

Wow, your Blog is very entertaining. Great adventures with pics. to prove it . Sprinkling of snow recently but lovely, calm Arm. Bare trees ..so Fall in the air. Stores are insanely crowded... You won't have to listen to Xmas music yet and the maddening commercialism. Life is lovely tho' & we also are enjoying living it. Take care you two. Hugs, D&N
