After an fairly easy ride, partly through the night, down to Benodet, we arrived to warmish weather and our square piece of grass/home for the next 12 nights. The campsite 'Camping du Letty' offered everything we needed and reminded me so much of when I went camping with my family throughout my childhood - it was quite a nostalgic holiday.
We set up home next to some friendly Dutch and opposite some friendly Germans. Although we definitely did not have the gear that some people have (satellite dishes, rotary washing lines, speed boats) it was homely enough. The weather was a bit iffy so quite a few days we were dodging the rain by visiting some of the surrounding places of interest. One afternoon we went to a town called Audierne which although quite quaint did not have a lot to offer than a fairly naff Flea Market that we whizzed round in about 5 minutes. We then headed up to Pointe de Raz, a viewpoint at the most westerly point in France - as it was raining and costs 5 Euros to park, we decided that the ending to our 30 minute journey to there should be
a 2 minute circle of the car park before we left.
Amidst the days out we enjoyed some sun at the gorgeous outdoor and indoor swimming pools and splash area; Heidi and Hector loved all the water slides and I loved the indoor lazy river..Heidi's swimming and 'sinker stick' diving improved immensly and Hector got more and more confiednet at bobbing his head under water when in his rubber ring, to the point that he could be under water for up to 14 seconds before resurfacing!!! I loved it when Nick tested the depth of the indoor pool by putting Heidi in without any armbands and watching her sink to the bottom, luckily I jumped into saved her as the teenage lifeguard looked on, smiling - the French health and safety is priceless.
Our next day out was at Parc de Loisirs - a great recommendation from our friends Charlotte and John....we were only 1 of 6 cars at this leisure park so pretty much had the place to ourselves. The rides consisted of a lot of ancient 'handmade' rides that had no staffing whatsoever but were a lot of fun, like the rollercoaster
that was basically a U shaped piece of track with 2 seats and some car seatbelts and the way to operate it was to don the gardening gloves left there and pull the 'carriage' up to the top of the U and then let it go. Nick also enjoyed some of hte zip wires across the lake, again all self operated - Heidi also clung to Nick to have a go on a zip wire. One of Nick's favourite rides was the maze which we thought would be easy, however being built on an incline and as it was peeing it down with rain, it was not that easy - especially as Nick had to push Hector in his pram through all of it - Heidi and I found it very funny watching Nick trip and slip in the mud - safe to say we were glad to find the exit, if not a little drenched!
On another rainy day we spent the day at the aquarium in Brest...so did hte rest of Brittany. It was an impressive place with lots of sharks and cool sea creatures to gawp at. Unfortunately the day ended badly when Nick
had a little, ok quite big, accident on the dual carriagway home. He managed to write the car off as we traveled up and down a grass bank and then road the crash barriers for a good 100 metres....it was a bit of a rude awakening for me as I was fast asleep until we were mounting a bank of grass! Luckily we were all ok and Heidi was quite excited to a get a ride in the ambulance with its nee-nors going intermittently.
Forgot to publish this...... the rest of the holiday was pretty uneventful - a mixture of weather so beach, pool, and rain!
Back to France in the summer this year for more camping antics!
