We have completed a circle and are now back on our second home, the place where we met, lived for many years and where Ella was born.
Even though I really liked being in Spain and closer to my family, I am very happy to be back here, as I feel like I developed as a person here and it's the place where my real life happened.
We've been here for over a year now and have been busy adapting to living here again, although it kind of feels as if we never left, and getting Ella used to be here as, even though she was born here, she was only three weeks old when we moved to Spain.
Being the list-nerd that I am, I have made one with all the things and places I didn't do or visit on my first ten years here (that's how long I was living in England before we moved to Spain) and I am really hoping to cross all of them off sooner or later:
1. Stonehenge (DONE in April)
2. Hay-on-Wye: the book town! (DONE in August)
3. The glass walk in Tower Bridge, London (DONE
in June)
4. Harry Potter world
5. The lavender fields (DONE in August)
6. The Channel Islands
7. The Scilly Islands
8. Isle of Man
9. Ireland (I know this is not in the UK, well Northern Ireland is, BUT I have always thought of both countries as kind of in the same package)
10. Ride a steam train
1. Stonehenge: we had already been there a couple of times but never inside the inner circle; this can be done during the solstice party (we tried to go a few years ago but there were so many people that we spend the night in a traffic jam instead and never made it to Stonehenge) or by booking an out-of-hours tour, which we did when my mum and aunt came to visit. We had to get up very early, as it's about 1.5 hours drive from our house, but it was worth the lack of sleep and the cold, as it was amazing being so close to those giant stones - they don't look so big from a distance but once you are next to them, they are massive! It's so
impressive thinking that it was built with no machines whatsoever - not even wheels!!
2. Hay-on-Wye: I've wanted to come here for ages!! Ever since I discovered that they have over 20 bookstores in such a little town. I could have stayed there the whole weekend and Dax and Ella were soooo patient with me because I wanted to go into every single bookshop; I refrained myself and only bought 5 books 😊
3. The glass walk in Tower Bridge: taking advantage of Ella being in Spain with my parents, we went for a weekend to London to visit friends and they were quite surprised when we told them we wanted to do 'touristy' stuff and go to the Tower Bridge - but they joined us anyway as they had never been there before (sometimes is fun to be a tourist in your own city). There were lots of people when we got there and we had to queue for a while but then it was so much fun: we loved climbing up the stairs instead of using the lift and waiting for Dax to use the loo only to realize he'd been to
the ladies'; we loved walking on the glass and seeing the boats passing under us; we loved seeing one of our friends so scared that he couldn't actually set foot on the glass because of his vertigo and, specially, we loved to do this with a group of friends that we don't get to see so often anymore.
4. The lavender fields: I've seen gorgeous photos of lavender fields in UK so I was dreaming of frolicking in fields covered in lilac flowers, which we kind of got... most of the lavender had already been harvested so all of us visiting the fields were crammed in the only part which still had flowers, but it was very nice and full of bees!
But we've also been doing other things that 'weren't on my list' trying to keep more active and make the most of our time together (both Dax and I work full time so we only have the weekends to spend time as a family) and, following
D MJ Binkley's advice I started writing what we did in our calendar and I'm happy to say that we've been doing things and visiting places nearly every
weekend, so I feel less of a couch potato than I felt last year 😊
Dax became 40 back in October and Ella and I promised him to take him on a surprise adventure so that will follow soon!

De vuelta en el Reino de los Unidos
Hemos completado un círculo y estamos de vuelta en nuestra segunda casa, el lugar dónde nos conocimos, vivimos durante muchos años y nació Ella.
Aunque me gustaba mucho vivir en España cerca de mi familia, estoy muy contenta de estar de vuelta aquí ya que siento que me desarrollé como persona y es el lugar donde mi viví una gran parte de mi vida.
Llevamos aquí un año y nos hemos mantenido ocupados adaptándonos a vivir aquí otra vez, aunque parece que nunca nos fuimos, e intentando que Ella se acostumbre a estar aquí ya que, aunque fue aquí donde nació, sólo tenía tres semanas cuando nos fuimos a España.
Como tengo una pequeña obsesión con las listas, he hecho una con las cosas que quería hacer
pero no hice y los sitios dónde quería ir pero no fui durante los diez años en los que estuve aquí, así que espero ir tachándolos poco a poco.
1. Stonehenge (HECHO en abril)
2. Hay-on-Wye: el pueblo de los libros! (HECHO en agosto)
3. La plataforma de cristal en Tower Bridge, Londres (HECHO en junio)
4. Harry Potter World
5. Los campos de lavanda (HECHO en agosto)
6. Las Channel Islands
7. Las Scilly Islands
8. Isle of Man
9. Irlanda (ya sé que no es parte del Reino Unido , bueno, Irlanda del Norte sí, pero siempre he pensado en los dos países como en 'un sólo paquete')
10. Viajar en tren de vapor
1. Stonehenge: ya habíamos estado allí un par de veces pero nunca dentro del círculo; esto solo se puede hacer durante la fiesta del solsticio (lo intentamos hace unos años, pero había tanta gente que nos pasamos la noche en un atasco de tráfico y nunca llegamos a Stonehenge) o reservando una visita fuera de horas, que es lo que hicimos cuando mi madre y mi tía vinieron a visitarnos. Nos
tuvimos que levantar muy pronto y conducir una hora y media, pero la falta de sueño y el frío merecieron la pena, ya que es increíble estar tan cerca de estas piedras gigantes; no parecen tan grandes desde lejos, pero una vez que estás a su lado... son enormes! Es increíble pensar que lo construyeron sin ninguna máquina, ni siquiera ruedas!
2. Hay-on-Wye: Hacía muuuucho tiempo que quería visitar este pueblo... desde que descubrí que tienen más de 20 librerías en este pueblo tan pequeño. Me podía haber pasado allí todo el fin de semana y Dax y Ella fueron muy pacientes conmigo porque yo quería entrar en todas y cada una de las librerías; me controlé bastante bien y sólo compré cinco libros 😊
3. La plataforma de cristal en el Puente de la Torre: aprovechando que Ella estaba en España con mis padres, fuimos a Londres a pasar un fin de semana con unos amigos que hacía tiempo que no veíamos, los cuales se sorprendieron bastante cuando les dijimos que queríamos hacer 'de turistas' e ir al Puente de la Torre; pero vinieron con nosotros ya que ellos tampoco habían estado allí
nunca (a veces no está mal ser turista en tu propia ciudad). Había muchísima gente y tuvimos que hacer cola durante un rato, pero luego nos lo pasamos muy bien: nos gustó subir por las escaleras en lugar de coger el ascensor y esperar a que Dax saliera del baño en la planta 1 para darnos cuenta, en la planta 2, de que había usado el baño de mujeres; nos gustó caminar en la plataforma de cristal y ver los barcos, coches y personas pasar por debajo de nuestros pies; nos gustó ver a uno de nuestros amigos estar tan asustado por el vértigo que no podía poner ni un pie en la plataforma de cristal pero, sobre todo, nos gustó hacer esto con buenos amigos a los que no podemos ver muy a menudo porque la vida siempre se mete en el medio...
4. Los campos de lavanda: He visto fotos preciosas de los campos de lavanda en Reino Unido así que yo soñaba con corretear por campos cubiertos de flores lilas... lo cual pude más o menos hacer; la mayoría de la lavanda ya se había recogido así que todos los que estábamos visitando los
campos ese día estábamos 'apelotonados' en la pequeña parte donde aún quedaban flores, pero fue muy bonito... y lleno de abejas!
Pero también hemos estado haciendo otras cosas que 'no estaban en mi lista' para intentar mantenernos activos y aprovechar el poco tiempo que tenemos para estar juntos (Dax y yo trabajamos a jornada completa y sólo tenemos los fines de semana para estar en familia) y, siguiendo el consejo de
D MJ Binkley, he empezado a escribir en el calendario lo que hacemos los fines de semana y, estoy contenta de decir que hemos hecho algo o visitado algún sitio casi todos los fines de semana.
El cumple de Dax fue en octubre... los 40... y Ella y yo le hemos prometido llevarlo de aventuras así que, manteneros conectados!

Updating the list
We had a great time on the Isle of Man and you can ride a steam train there. You are brave to do the London Bridge walk....I would not be able to do that. Love the photo in the lavender.
