Hawkhill Performance
Ready and set for the Hawkhill performance. Events as it tranpsired by Spencer:
The day started off with an early wake up call at 7:00 am with Mr. Cupid knocking on my door, speaking in Spanish, "Buenos dias seƱor!". He knocks until I answer my door. "Wakey wakey" and then asks "chicken or fish?". I reply "chicken". He then asks, "white bread or whole wheat?". I'm trying to eat healthy so reply "whole wheat". He will remain at my door asking me questions until I give him eye to eye contact to let him be certain that I'm awake.
After having breakfast at 7am, we went back to our rooms, got changed and boarded the bus at 9:30 with our yellow TASSO shirts and blazers in hand. We arrived at Hawkhill House, a private nursing home, with mature trees surrounded by lush gardens and beautiful flowers. We then set up outside and started to perform at around 11am. The performance went well. Most of the residents are wheelchair-bound and quite elderly. This was a perfect community service event, we made them feel good. We were told that most of them have dementia and Alzheimer's. The performance ended around 12pm and we were served the

We also saw pictures from when TASSO visited the home previously in 2009. There is a picture of Robert and Nestor. I don't know how old they were at that point, but they had a baby face like mine!
We then boarded the bus at 1:15pm and head to our second performance at Westhill. When we got there, all of our pans were off-loaded from the truck. This was a welcoming sight. Nevertheless, it was a very tight performing space, so we had to leave out some of the instruments. We performed together with the Blackburn with Darwen Big Band (from England), Western Arts University Ambassadors (from U.S.), and the group from Ghana. After our performance, we did a collaboration with everyone and they picked "In The Mood" to be the song. All four groups worked together as we played alongside the big band and the American and African dancers danced with high energy! We then packed the truck, boarded the bus and headed back to our dorms. It was about 11:15 when we arrived back.

Nestor making the residents laugh with his busted up dance moves. Most of us changed, knocked on Mr. Cupid's door, and asked to go to watch the Blackburn band's performance in the Dome (30 second walk from our front door). After going to the performance, we came back at 12:30, checked in with Mr. Cupid, and headed straight to bed. It was a long day, but it was a good day. I had lots of fun.
