Sozipol on the Black Sea
From Plovdiv towards the Black Sea the Bulgarian roads, agricultural vista and general scenery continue in the same pleasing tone as the Sofia to Plovdiv journey. It is a stark contrast to the south western part of Bulgaria. However some towns away from the highway tell - through their run down housing, neglected local infrastructure and sad old people - their tale of Soviet colonialism. In these old towns men gather in the mornings for a heart starter and sit all day. Women sit outside their houses looking blankly at the road.
The bigger cities have their old soviet built apartment blocks to provide perpetual visual poverty.
Along the main highway we see the harvesting of abundant grain crops as a sign of new wealth for farming in Bulgaria.
Then on the Black Sea coast we visited Sozipol. A resort town built around an ancient city. Old Town Sozipol claims to have the remains of St John, but they did not bring them out to show us. So we shall take their word for it.
Old Town Sozipol is like many other old towns
– narrow winding cobbled streets that seem to weave between houses - as opposed to having houses built along a street. Pleasantly free of come follow me tourist guides and rent a crowd followers Sozipol is easy to walk around and discover. There are some ruins of a 6
th Century Fortress and various assorted ancient buildings here for the student of ancient history.

Bulgaria Black Sea and Sozipol
Glad to hear your blog again, and know your still travelling safely. Its a different world out there isn't it, we are going well . Finally have our caravan back after it going in for Warranty problems. Hope to get away for a few weeks up north soon but helping looking after granddaughter at the moment on weekends while son starts major renovations this weekend. Take care and safe travels J & J
