Sunday

Susan, Pam and I wake up – normal hour – and talk, check Facebook and work on the blog. We then call mom and Sally about 9:30 and find out that Mom’s room got flooded. We head down. Seems the walk in shower was all slanted wrong and when she turned the water on to get the temp correct, it flooded into the bathroom floor and out the door, not into the drain which is in the middle of the bathroom floor. Mom tried to contain the damage by herself but it turns out that after close to an hour she finally woke up Sally who helped. Oh I wish she had called. She did lose a pair of shoes to the water.

Susan, Pam and I head out the door and there are people everywhere – All over the hall sitting and eating -- ???? – still not sure why. The hotel is full and had 4 middle school?? High school??? Softball teams there and their parents. The hall group seemed more like a few large families though. Anyway, we headed down to pick up mom and head to breakfast. Oh yea, I forgot to tell you

they gave me like 12 breakfast coupons last night. They said it was for your 3 nights. I said, “huh, I’m only staying for 1” oh.. yes, I see”. So we got 5 and we all got a free breakfast today. The only problem was that there was one of the teams and their families in there all eating and no seats, (well one). We put mom at the table that was empty except for the chair, then I was so impressed, several of the softball players (not the parents!) picked up their chairs and carried them over so we could sit. This gave me the feeling the younger generation truly understands being nice. I wish most Americans would think about others more than themselves. I know we are all guilty of it but... It is just so nice to see people who really care.

After breakfast I headed to the room and skype’d Nicky and Tim. I had given them a time we might be on and didn’t want them waiting around. I talked to them about our “New England” vacation until mom arrived. I just wanted mom to see the kids before we parted ways. I tried

to Skype KK but she was not to be found.

At the same time Susan called Stephanie and she said Donny HAD to talk with her. He was so excited about his trip out west and all he saw. Stephanie’s facebook posts were great for their trip. Stephanie, you need to start a travel blog.

We checked out of the hotel, yes, I mentioned mom’s shower and we headed to see Yale. We first drove down Hillhouse Rd to see the old stately houses and then tried to find the old (early 1700s section) of Yale. We never did fine it, even after trying to map it several times. Google maps,… sent us all over. Our next destination was East Rock (another Trip Advisor location that came up) and we drove up to it. The drive was thru green forests and the views at the top were wonderful. Thousands of years ago, the area was covered in ice (glaciers) but when they receded, it formed the area of East Rock. The ice at the time was ½ mile thick even on top of the rock hill.

Our next destination was the light house on the coast. More

stupid Connecticut. We drive down for miles to get to it and finally get to the end and they want to charge us $20 to drive thru the parking lot. Seriously!!!

Our next stop was another Brewery for Kendall. We drove to the address, took us a bit to find it in the complex, and there was a sign on the door, we have moved. Luckily the address was not TOO far off. We drove there and I went in. I explained why I wanted a shirt (my niece Kendall is one of the new beer byers for Whole Foods in Nashville Tenn and can wear t-shirts from Beer brewery’s to work). Our job was to find several on the trip. I think we failed as we only found 2. But now that I have my trip advisor app, I’ll find more. (Hey Shelly if you are reading this and still in Reno, find one and buy it for me). So I went in and told them what I wanted and they go so excited. They wanted to know her store location, her name…

After that we headed to the airport. The GPS took us thru a neighborhood

before getting us to the highway. I dropped off the gang at the airport (their flight was 25 minutes before mine) and I took the van back. Seems that tweek the guy at the desk did to change our reservation last week not only saved us $100 but also gave us unlimited mileage. We only had 1500 miles with our original reservation and then $.25 a mile after that. Well, we totaled 2588 miles on that van in 1 week. I still say the ending mileage was wrong but the receipt has 2588 so that is what I have to go with. Wow we did some driving!

I take the car van back to the airport and caught up with them at their gate. I hear that their trip thru the security was another “New England” experience. I’m going to miss it up here, but.. well now, I’d hate to be here in the winter. Give me “Southern Hospitality” any day!!!

Now they took off from gate 30. The furthest gate on one side of the airport. I took off from gate 12, the furthest on the other side. It felt good to walk. I’m sitting in first

class, yea, I was upgraded and having a glass of wine. The lady beside me reminds me of my sisters. She ordered a drink and asked the attendant to surprise her. I felt at home with my family.

THANK YOU - family

Mom –I love you and I’m so happy you got to spend time with your sister. You will see her again within the year!!

Sisters - Wow – I miss y’all so much. I so wish I was closer. I can’t wait for our grandad’s trip

Sally – my cousin – thanks for taking your time off to give us to help us with mom and sharing your stories and joining us on our “New England” adventure. You know you are our “other” sister and the one mom likes best. ;-)

Tune in next time for whatever trip I choose to go on.
