Today we all dressed in our Canada gear, as it was the opening ceremony. There were 14 other countries participating in the festival. This year there are three Canadian groups, including a fiddler group from Victoria, BC and a marimba group. It was a well presented ceremony. They spoke a little bit about each musical group, going over their history, and in our case they spoke of our past visits to the Aberdeen International Youth Musical Festival. There are groups from the United States, Spain, Russia, Mexico, Finland, Germany, Belgium and South Africa to name a few. After the ceremony was over, we ate our packed lunch and proceeded to the Union Terrace Gardens. We participated in a workshop with a local street drumming group from Scotland, the TNT group. Performing in the Terrace Gardens was also the marimba group, the Basque dancers, the TNT youth drumming band and Edge n Pointe dance company. TASSO musicians had a fantastic time. It was a special day because it was Rhianne's birthday! We celebrated with delicious desserts. Afterwards, we packed up our instruments and went straight home to dinner at the HUB. The musicians then enjoyed a free evening, while the chaperones organized
our day trip for tomorrow's trip to Inverness to see the Loch Ness monster. Ooohhhhh!

thanks for all of the photos
Thanks so much for posting all of the photos and the summary of daily activity. It makes me feel very connected to the band and the trip. I find myself constantly 'converting' my eastern standard time to Scotland time at various points of the day and wondering what is the band doing now? Sincerely, Howard Chelin
