Guess I have a little catching up to do. The trip to Destruction Bay went well. The scenery made the trip seem to go quicker and enjoyable. We traveled through the Kluane Mountain Ranges, which were beautiful. These mountains wrapped themselves around the Kluane Lake, which was the most interesting aqua blue. We spotted our first grizzly bear along the road, but by the time we got close enough for good pictures he moved into the brush area. Our overnight campground was in another very tight spot. Again, these places are not always made for a number of bigger rigs traveling together. We looked like a can of sardines ... all lined up in a row, some parking forward and others back in order to pull out slides. The owner of the rv park, however was great. He did all he could to make us feel welcome, and even included a great breakfast before we left on Tuesday morning. Maybe he was trying to make up for the roads we were about to encounter.

The trip from Destruction Bay to Tok, Alaska was hopefully the worst we will see this entire trip. Talk about rough .... there were plenty of times we both looked to see if the car was still in tow. We traveled 224 miles that day, and at least 200 of that was under construction or extremely bumpy due to frost heaves in the roads. Jim admitted it was a very hard drive. The only positive thing about it, is we made it to Alaska! We left Cuba City two weeks ago, so it was great to finally cross the border .... 3400 miles from home.

Our first stop in Tok was for gas. The prices are lower than in Canada, but still higher than we would have liked. By stopping prior to parking, we received a free rv and car wash at the RV Park. Believe me, we all needed that! I have never seen our car or motorhome so dirty. Because we were all so anxious to get our vehicles cleaned, we had quite an assembly line as we all helped each other.

We spent two nights in Tok. On Wednesday we drove to the small town (about 4 buildings) of Chicken, Alaska. It was a long ride, but gave us something else to do and see during our free day. Chicken was an old gold mining town years ago.

We are now in Valdez until Monday morning. We have a Glacier Cruise scheduled for tomorrow .... a 9 hour cruise. More about that later. Right now I am having problems getting some pictures to download. (I will try to get some added later)

Catchin' Up
You've done a great job keeping this journal. It sounds like the group is organized and allows you to enjoy the trip instead of frettin'. I'm sure Gooch appreciates the promo, I believe his advertising budget will cover another hat. When you're back down here, come see our Florida buffalo - or perhaps they're beefalo. Not sure. Keep on truckin', enjoy and be safe. All our love.
