We always enjoy our stay at Tewantin and visits to Noosa, and apart from a couple of rainy nights and one showery day, the weather was wonderful, warm and sunny. We did all the things we love to do there - caught the ferry from Tewantin to Noosa, we walked the beach, relaxed sitting in the sun by the river mouth, watching the boats and the fishermen, we looked in the shops along the river. We didn't swim, though many did - the water's still too cold for me. We also lunched at the Yacht Club again, where I can order seafood for one, I wish more places would serve it than the platter that's usually for two - I miss out as I'm the only one of us who enjoys it.
Before we left the Sunshine Coast, we went to the Wednesday Eumundi markets. Even with our early start and getting to Eumundi by 8.30am, the car park was all but full, also muddy as it must have rained yet again during the night. Now campers who are self sustaining can stay overnight in the car park and it's becoming popular, something we must do one time the night
before the markets too. We separated for awhile, I went up and down the rows, sought my favourite stalls, always colourful, clothes, jewellery, plants, paintings, toys, all manner of things to buy. The crowds were more like the popular Saturday market, usually Wednesday there are less people - school holidays bring all the people to the markets a well as fill caravan parks! We met again for coffee, Doug had bought a punnet of large and delicious Bli Bli strawberries, always a treat at the markets, then we wandered back to the motor home and back on the highway to continue our trek north.
We stopped by the river at Maryborough for lunch, I love the old Queenslander homes there - timber, set high with a verandah all around - and on to Hervey Bay, bypassing the actual town but driving to Toogoom at the northerly end of the Wide Bay area. We were looking for the house which is the prize on the TV show, House Rules. This is an old Queenslander which the show moved in two sections onto the bayside block. In a week, the contestants renovated it and planted a garden (with, it should be
said, quite a few helpers in the background). It's quite a lovely home, and I hope to win it, as did every other person who was outside taking photos and peeking over the fence! We drove around the area and realised we’d visited the nearby beach for the first time last year. The tides of the bay are amazing, this time extreme low, the sand went on forever before the water was reached.
Burrum Heads isn't that far from Toogoom. We found our spot in the caravan park for our overnight stay. It’s a nice, relaxing, friendly place, popular with fisherman. We walked the path alongside the river and sat in the sun talking to the locals and campers and watching the goings on, mostly people fishing from the beach or bringing their boats in, backing their cars and trailers down the ramp.
Part of the joy of travel is the people we meet from all walks of life, I love hearing everyone's story. At Burrum Heads it's a bit different - the talk is of yabbies pumped for bait, nets thrown and bait collected in them, fish biting, about taking out their boat and what they hope
to catch, what's running. We non-fishermen haven't a clue, but it's funny to see how it takes over these campers' holiday. Some from the southern states are here all winter - you'd have to love fishing and fish!
Today we head to Bundaberg for a few days - more strawberries, and macadamias off the farm - what could be better?
