Hello People,

Morning;

We tried to have a lie in this morning, but some inconsiderate people in the dorm were making continuous noise for ages before 6am grrrrr.

After queuing for the shower, we went for our free breakfast in the hostel (just jam, bread and juice but it was free.

We didn’t have to check out until noon, so we hung around a bit, repacking our bags ready for the trip and using the Wi-Fi. The hostel tried to charge us double the price when we checked out, but luckily we had the receipt from booking.com to prove how much we had to pay.

Once we checked out of this hostel we moved just one block down the road to ‘Prisma Hotel’ where our STA travel tour is starting today at 16.30. We are staying here tonight with the rest of our group, who we are yet to meet.

Evening:

The hotel is luxury compared to the hostels we have been staying in! A massive private room with an incredible hot shower-a hotel basically- but we were so relieved to be in one that we didn’t leave all afternoon. We met down in the reception at 4.30pm for out tour meeting; some were late so it didn’t start until 5pm. We booked the Machu Picchu 4-day Inca trek plus sacred valley tour through STA travel about a year ago. The company that operates the tour is called G-Adventure. Now we are writing this blog after we have completed this tour we would definitely recommend booking at least 6 months in advance for this trek (permits are very limited each day), and we would recommend G-Adventure!

G-Adventure went through the tour with us. A Sacred valley and Ollantaytambo guided day trip and then the 4-day Machu Picchu hike. We briefly met our other 14 fellow tour members for this same hike but also met some people who were also doing the Lares Hike.

After about 2 hours we received our duffle bags that we were allowed to fill to a maximum of 6kg (these bags would be carried by the Porters) and we would carry only a day bag. We were also given the opportunity to rent walking poles, an extra sleeping mat and a sleeping bag. We opted out of all rentals but we would if in fact hired an airbed sleeping mat as the ground was so hard and cold on the hike!

After the meeting everyone went their separate ways until the morning. Neil and I decided to go back to our last hostel to get cheap food and free coca tea. It was then early to bed in our comfy Prisma Hotel before an early start.

Good night
