I remembered the village of Aspen as beautifully nestled beneath its towering ski area and Terry hadn’t seen it before, so we added it to our itinerary. For lodging, we selected an old-fashioned inn, Mountain Chalet, which dates back to 1954 when it was right at the foot of one of the original lifts and stood all by itself. It's reasonable for Aspen at well under $100 a night and you can’t beat the location. There’s no AC and the furnishings feel like a real ski lodge but it’s a nostalgic experience to stay there and stroll around town. Additionally, the complimentary breakfast is sensational. There is an actual fresh orange squeezer for your morning juice.

Another reason I wanted to go to Aspen was to see nearby Maroon Bells, the dream of any photographer that goes to Colorado. It was really pretty but coming with the high expectation I had from every photo I'd ever seen, I realized there were some lessons to be learned. #1. Go in the morning, not the afternoon, to capture the reflection of the twin peaks in Marooon Lake. #2. If you go in Spring, wait until at least late May when the aspens are in full radiant yellow to add some color. None of these are secrets to photographers and you might have to stand elbow to elbow in the popular spots but you can get the shot you want.

What beautiful pictures and scenery ..... you enumerated some conditions a photographer should follow and I know you were there in late May. Did you go in the morning? ..... and were others also snapping shots, or no? :)

How to photograph Maroon Bells by yourself!
There seemed to be a few other visitors the evening we arrived but no serious photographers as it wasn't the right time. We were going to return if the weather seemed agreeable in the morning but it was overcast.
