Heading to Paris we had pre booked a car to the train station. Couldn't trust the tube as it was a public holiday and there was a push bike race on, closing a lot of roads down.

Arrived at the station early (as that's how we roll),to be greeted by a few scammers between the 100 metres it took from the car into the terminal.

The train trip itself was its own fantastic experience, very comfortable and modern.

I think it is about 400 metres long and travels at speeds up to 300 kms per hour.

Unexpectedly we even got fed with a fresh croissant, coffee and juice.

It's not long and you are under the channel to a change of scenery with green country side ,farms and little villages. A complete change from London.

At Paris we head straight for the ease of a taxi, avoiding more scammers outside the train terminal.

Check in and happy with our modern clean room, which is abit smaller than London.

Heading out for our first walk, Michelle is worried about getting lost and a bit unsure of unfamiliar surroundings.

We take our map, but don't venture too far from home.

We past street markets and it becomes apparent of the main food here. Cheese, cured meats, waffles, crepes, crossiants and bloody Nutella.

A bit tired and hungry we find a cafe for an early tea and a glass of wine. Michelle finally gets a nice beef salad, something which was lacking a lot around London.

Head back at a time that seems early, but we have a big four days ahead.

One observation is that the cafe's have all the front seats facing the road, not each other. Punters all sit in rows along these seats.

Also interesting is the length of daylight, as you get a long twilight in the morning and night, meaning it is daylight from about 4.30 in the morning until about 10.30 at night.
