Rio de Janeiro

Hello guys. Well we have arrived in Rio and spent 4 days seeing the sights and sounds Rio has to offer!! The flight from London was good considering we nearly missed the plane despite being in the airport 5 hours before the Rio flight!! Anyway Philip was lucky as he got 8 hours sleep compared to Chiara who was awake, looking at the path of the flight over the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, wondering where we would land if there was engine trouble. Thankfully everything was fine and we arrived at Rio to be accosted by taxi drivers looking business!
Our hostel is great - just in the middle of Copacabana close to the beach and in a safe area. On the first day we went on a hostel tour of the city including the famous Christo Rendentor at Corcovado, and had our first typical Brazilian food - Fejoada!
The next couple of days have been spent chilling, checking out Ipanema and Pao de Açucar (Sugarloaf Mountain) . Tomorrow we are off to Ilha Grande for some more rest and relaxation - may even get a chance to get go snorkelling!

Ciao gente! Arrivati a Rio sani e salvi e speso 4 giorni in giro per la citta´. Il volo da Londra e´andato bene consideraqto che abbiamo quasi perso il volo seppur arrivati con 5 ore di anticipo in aereoporto. Philip si e´fatto 8 ore di sonno - beato lui! - mentre Chiara se ne stava sveglia guardando nello schermi il percorso dell´aereo domandandosi dove saremmo atterrati se ci fossero stati problemi al motore....per fortuna siamo arrivati senza problemi, pronti per essere assaliti da una marea di tassisti che cercavano di farci salire nei loro taxi.
L´ostello e´carinissimo, nel centro di Copacabana, vicinissimo al spiaggia e soprattutto in una zona sicura! Il primo giorno ce ne siamo andati a vedere il Christo Rendentor a Corcovado seguito da cena a base di Fejoada -si scrivera´cosi´?!-annaffiata da buonissima birra brasiliana. Il resto del tempo l´abbiamo passato visitando le spiaggie piu´famose come Ipanema e il Pao de Açucar -mi ripeto, si scrivera´cosi´boh...-
Domani lasciamo la citta´ ´per andarcene ad Ilha Grande dove faremo un sacco di snorkelling e trekking nella giungla!

Making the dinner here, no fejoada, just cabbage and bacon and home grown spuds! Rio looks stunning and you dont look so bad yourselves! I was reading in the Irish news the other day of the dangers in Rio. Some poor woman visited the zoo for a leisurely day out and a monkey pinged her on the hed with a stone. (The Irish News keeping me informed) So mind yourselves! and keep up the good work with the blogging. Enjoy the beach B,M,D
