Wild bull elephant Another totally awesome experience. From Ooty we travelled by car through more winding roads and 36 hairpin turns on the decent to Mudumalai, which is still in the Nilgiris, but at a much lower elevation. We had booked a one night stay at Forest Hills Farm and Guest House, located of the edge of the sanctuary. Well were greeted at the gate by the owner Savita and her son Sameer. We felt like we were old friends returning after a long absence. Shortly after arrival they arranged a driver and jeep to take us on safari. He took us around the boundary of the park, then into the sanctuary where we boarded a bus to go deeper into the forest. We didn't see any tigers, but we did see a large herd of gaur (Indian bison), chitral (a type of deer), languars and macaques (monkeys) and malibar giant squirrels.Following the bus tour, we were taken to the elephant camp where we observed food preparation and feeding of some very large tuskers We then had another ride in the jeep for another spin around the perimiter of the park at dusk, when the animals are on the move. Here we spotted a herd
of wild elephants. So wonderful to see them free and moving around in the forest untethered.
Following the safari, we were treated to a scrumptious dinner, lovingly prepared by our host. We spent a wonderful night in the compound a little away from the main building. It was great to be out there because we could here the calls and movements of the wild animals in the night. All in all this was a fantastic experience, so much so, that we changed our plans and stayed an extra night! This is one place I would go back to in a heart beat.

Amazing pictures! It must have been so nice for you to see your elephants out in the wild, wandering free!
