Hello Bloggers and followers,

This morning we had another lie in, with Kaye having breakfast all laid out ready for us when we woke again. Neil and I then went for a walk from their house following the path for about 15 minutes that lead to a road with a few wineries on it, one after the other.

There are approximately 250 vineyards in McLaren Vale with 180ish that have cellar doors. It was an amazing morning as we could go into the wineries and taste whatever wine and how ever many we wanted FOR FREE! I think we tried about 6 different wines at our first stop (Primo); probably another 6 wines at the second one, (Hamilton) this one also had free olive oil and dip tasting (yummy!). Then at the third winery (Wirra Wirra) we tried about 10 wines basically just working our way down the list of sparkling, white, red, sweet and ports.

By this stage I was feeling quite happy so we decided to walk back to Rodger’s house. Just a short walk after leaving Wirra Wirra a family picked us up in their car and drove us back which was very kind of them! They dropped us off around the corner to Rodger’s house in the little village. As it was Rodger’s birthday we thought we would pick him up a card while we were in the village.

Once getting home around lunchtime, Kaye had made us a chicken meat loaf and rolls. It was so good that I even asked for the recipe. Rodger had three more vineyards lines up for us after lunch- I think I only tried a few more a each place otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to walk.

Then about 15.30 we headed over to Simon’s (their son) for a SA braai. Their house was really nice, only about 20 minutes down the road. We played cricket in the garden, drank wine, and chatted while the meat was cooking on the braai.

It was a lovely afternoon and evening, we didn’t head back to Rodger and Kaye’s house until after 10pm.

Once again a busy day, we both headed to bed when we got in.

God night V&N

How to go about wine tasting in McLaren Vale
Hello, Thanks for your posting and the great pictures! I was curious as to how exactly the wine tasting there works? Do all of the different wineries have tastings for free? Is it fairly easy to walk to different wineries? Any guidance would be much appreciated! Cheers, AJ

Hi AJ
So there are 250 wineries around McClaran Vale but only 180 of them have cellar doors (tastings) all you do is walk in and they ask what you would like to try from a tasting menu!!! Its really easy we were both nervous and unsure at the first one but after that its easy!!! Enjoy!!
