"The Voice of the Sea Speaks to the Soul" ~

Well Prince Charming, myself & the girls arrived in paradise today back to good old Playa del Carmen & we're about as happy as clams at high tide. And thanks to our wonderful friend John for driving us to the airport at 5:30 this morning. We have THE best friends ever - thanks John & Manon!

Ahhhh, we are grateful to be back here in our happy place and I'm also happy to report we did not get off on the wrong foot of vacation like last time when one bag got left behind at the airport with Al turning around and making the trip back to retrieve it. However, for the first time ever, we got a "red light" at the airport which means your bags have to be checked. Ah tartar sauce. But they were very friendly and of course we had no "illegal contraband" wink wink so all was well. Our wonderful driver Jaime was waiting for us, air conditioner on high, and a cooler of beer and water for the drive to Playa. Now that is what I call a GREETING!

Usually we are out of O-Town by the end of June, so this is a change going a bit later in the summer. We are looking forward to relaxing, recharging, and lots of adventure. Although I can guarantee I will be skipping the zip lining this time - I've had enough face-to-face time with trees to last me a life time after the "incident" in January 😉

TIME'S A' FLYIN' - LIFE IS CHANGING

I do believe someone played a trick on me because it wasn't that long ago I put Rory on the bus to kindergarten, and in June Rory graduated grade 8 with flying colors (I wonder who coined the term "flying colors"?) Anyhow, we told her if she ended the year on a high note we'd take a trip back to Mexico for summer vacation. She made honor roll, Vice Principal's list and received School Letter. It was melancholy to see Rory and all her friends, and our friends' kids (Sue, Maureen, Linda, Celine, Yuko) graduating & all grown up in their Sunday best.

Who am I kidding we pretty well knew we were coming back here due to my wonderful work with Playa Beach Getaways (and its lovely perks) but definitely Rory ending grade 8 on such a high note sweetened the deal.

So she'll be joining Lara now at high school. (Where the heck did our little babies go?) There are bittersweet moments in your life as a parent when you realize those little babies are quickly growing up. But when we see how they are evolving into confident mature young ladies it does make our hearts proud.

Ava, well Ava will now be all alone at her school now going into grade 5. It'll be bittersweet in Sept. not seeing Rory & Ava walk to school together (insert honking sniffling sound). Those two are like bacon and eggs, peanut butter & jelly. But I shall not talk about September right now (totally sacrilegious in the early stages of summer).

We are thrilled to be back to Playa and enjoying one of THE finest oceanfront condos ever. Al's parents are flying in tomorrow for two weeks of surf, sand and fun. We haven't seen them in a year so let the good times roll. (Ray & Pat we're stocking the fridge with the Dos Equis right now 😊

Being directly oceanfront offers you so much privacy, and overlooking the Caribbean is ahem, not too shabby. We have so much outdoor space, with a rooftop equipped with luxury dining and lounging furniture including a nice hammock that Al has put his name on already!

And at night when you're on the rooftop you really believe you could easily reach up and grab a star as they feel so close. The sky is so clear here and you see such marvelous stars, along with the most stunning sunrises & sunsets unlike anything you would see at home, and there's a reason for that. (What? OK I will go on!)

Many people claim there are few places on earth where the sunrises & sunsets are more stunning than the Caribbean Basin. Of course witnessing sunrises over the sea is one thing, but the sunrises in the Riviera Maya often rise from a bed of fluffy clouds along the horizon making them extremely dramatic. Last year the colors we saw in the sunrise while staying on Isla Mujeres flooded us with awe; yellow, gold, orange, & red hues exploding, offering a color display you could only dream of. It borders on poetic.

There are many reasons the sunrises and sunsets in this neck of the woods are so stunning; there is this thing called the anatomy of sunrises and sunsets, and due to being along the coastline, and having high humidity and salt crystals in the air influences the way the rays scatter. Anyhow, Professor Sal can only offer you a simple glimpse into why these sunrises and sunsets are so jaw dropping. You must come see for yourself...simply simply beautiful. I will be waiting for you Mrs. Sunrise tomorrow morning at 6 am.

We witness so much beauty here that it's hard to explain. There's a reason almost 1.6 million Canadians flock to Mexico annually - because it's safe, welcoming, beautiful, hot, tropical, unique, distinctive...(I attached a map of Mexico and you can a) see how very large it is, and b) see that we are way out on the peninsula sitting beautifully on the Caribbean Sea.)

On that note, a swimming pool and a cold refreshing drink are awaiting us!

For those of you pumped up for your holidays, whether you're going to a cottage, going on a road trip to the east coast of the US (hello Boston & New Hampshire!), and those pitching a tent enjoying a camping vacation, please enjoy! Summer is in the air and the livin' is easy.

I remain the lover of everything Riviera Maya 😊

Adios!

We are ready to go
Up and ready to check-in early this morning with thunder & lightning in the background. Can I get checked-in without a power failure? Wow this WestJet web site isn t the easiest to do what you want quickly. Luckily, after a few clicks to no where the check-in was confirmed. Just in time, power interruption. Thankfully the power interruption was short. Anyway the weather this afternoon was ideal. So after cutting the lawn I vegged on the deck with a Corona to orient myself for our time in Playa. Pat was able to organise our neighbours, Debbie & Brandy, to water her flowers for two weeks. Now just a few hours before Vince comes calling at 6:00 AM to get us to the airport. Save some of that Dos Equis for tomorrow afternoon. Looking forward to our get together and another great vacation. Ray
