Sunday dawned sunny and hot - imagine that!! We enjoyed our coffee on the porch with fresh pineapple we bought yesterday at a roadside stand. We had been advised by a gentleman from Montreal, who had been on our first shuttle, that while in Samara we should go to Playa Carillo, a neighbouring beach. We pulled up Google Earth and made our plan. This took us down the long stretch of Samara Beach in the sweltering sun where I searched through piles of shells to find the perfect ones to take home to my class. As we meandered along we were joined by hundreds of crabs who quickly hid in their holes as we approached. We made it to the end of the beach where there were dozens of pelicans dive bombing for fish amongst several of the locals who were cooling off in the water. We were amazed at the craggy rocks that seem to have swallowed up the sand. After watching the pelicans we found a little dirt road that lead us to the main road. We walked for about 10 minutes and came upon Playa Carillo. This is a very beautiful beach that is lined with palm trees where people set up for the day to relax in the shade and enjoy the breeze. We stayed for bit and then made our way back to Samara Beach, stopping for a much needed Imperial Beer at Las Palmito's - a more local establishment on the beach. Upon reaching our spot, Curtis got a surf board and hit the waves. I waited patiently on the shore to get the "perfect" shot of his surfing experience! It was so incredibly hot and after he had exhausted the waves and the tide was moving in, we packed up and headed into town. We stopped at a rooftop bar for a beer and sweet potato fries. Along the side of the road we came upon some local children who were trying desperately to put a chain back on a bike. Curtis stopped to help them and they were so appreciative!! Turns out they live right across the road so we were also thanked by mama! Our plan is to visit Coco's Mexican Restaurant for dinner. We are so thrilled with this place!!!

Dive Bombing Pelicans

LOVING YOUR ADVENTURE!
We're loving (and jealous) reading about your wonderful adventure in Costa Rica, a place we'd like to visit sometime too (we'd better hurry up! We're getting old fast! :) ) Rick & Roberta Offord are here with us for a week to 10 days so I'm copying your blog and photos and emailing it all to them. Hope that's okay with you. They'll be leaving here to head to Manzanilla, Meh-HEEE-ko where they'll park their RV on the beach for the rest of the winter. Curtis, you look pretty awesome on that surf board, but you're going to have to grow your hair and get some dreads to really play the part. Maybe a career change after you retire??? Susan, you look beautiful as ever. Your smile couldn't get much larger! :) Keep enjoying and sharing your story. You deserve every minute. Hugs, Judy (and Terry who's currently looking online at RV's....sigh! :) )
