New Year in Phrae

An amazing ceremony with thousand of people chanting together on New Year Eve. with each head tied with white thread all linked skyward, connected like a weaving web, and amplified their prayer with their bonding spirit. since my new year eve for the last decade had been submerged only by thundering crackers and war zone fire work in China. last night was like a fresh breeze and drizzle on the arid skin!

Phrae is an relaxing little city with very little western tourists, even the number of Thai tourist are not significient huge. like all places in Thailand, temples are the main sight, put aside which is the oldest, the grandest, the holiest relics from buddha....voted with my own liking. I would pick the Burmese style teak wood temple Wat Chom Sawan, and the Wat Phrathat Chom Chaeng with an huge standing buddha.

The town has plenty of cafe for refreshment while exploring the small lane in the old city. the day time affair mostly on Charoen Mueang Alley and the Preeda market on Chor Hae Rd. also the area around the BigC supermarket and the Mark Four Center. and evening scene kind of concentrated at the night market on the cross road of Rop Mueang and Charoen Mueang Alley. or there are couple of drinking place near the bus station. an addition Saturday walking market on the Kham Lue Rd, similar to those in Chiangmai but in smaller scale. anyways....one comes to Phrae for some quiet and off the track. There also some natural Park in area for outdoor activity, only if you can get the hand on the transpotation.

bus from Phrae to Chiangrai. in the bus station. buy ticket at counter 18, B150. and waiting for bus at platform 12. bus journey about 3 hrs.
