South Rim
Grand Canyon We were so excited to visit Lake Mead; tour the Hoover Dam. Let's go. We headed into the area from the North and started to get in the left turn lane for Lake Mead Village. Uh-oh. This is a turn a 40-foot motor coach can't make. So we continue South looking for a place to turn around. Being impatient senior people, and not finding a turnaround after 5 minutes, we continued on and made reservations (lucky to get a cell phone signal) at the Gateway RV Resort in Williams, AZ.
The elevation here is 7,000'. I was unsure about us staying any amount of time due to Tom's lung disease, but he felt the travel-size oxygen bottles would keep him "just fine." For my birthday Tom got me a camera harness that carries two cameras, a Nikon Camera to compliment my retirement gift of an Olympus Camera (thank you again Continental friends) and fortunately, he knows how to use both of them!
We drove in to Grand Canyon Village one morning and learned the best way (for us) to visit was traveling on their shuttle buses. Great! Just leave the driving to them. We grabbed a sandwich at Hermit's
Hopi Point
Grand Canyon Rest before settling in at Yavapai Point to enjoy a beautiful sunset.
From here we head to Verde Valley Thousand Trails where we will do the doctor appointment thing before moving further south for the winter. Just an update for those who know Tom has pulmonary fibrosis. An orphan drug was approved by the FDA the end of October. Unfortunately, no one's prescription plan (according to the doc) covers this drug yet. The cost is about $8k/month. Not to be discouraged...we'll just keep enjoying life on the road. Happy Thanksgiving ya'll!
