SANTORINI ,WEDNESDAY, 29 OCTOBER, 2014. Fine Sunny & cool in the shade.

This morning we headed out on foot to walk to the next village, walking along the community path. Were enjoying it so we decided to continue walking to OIA, about 2.5 hrs from our hotel. It turned out to be quite a walk, more a hike really, as we were forging new paths up a sizeable hill, through waist height grass, over rocky terrain. We were concerned about sprained ankles. Arrived in OIA on time!!

OIA seemed very touristy and was crowded with ship born travellers. 3 large cruise ships arrived in the harbour this morning. Found a nice cafe where we stopped for a refreshing

Beer. Definitely tourist prices, 3x normal cost! Walked past numerous touristy shops ( think Cavil mall). Found the bus stop, intending to take the bus back. The waiting crowd was three bus loads thick, so the doors closed in our faces. We could wait 20 minutes for the next bus, however the crowd was swelling, and likely we would have missed a ride again. So we decided to walk back. A slightly less adventurous route. Not sure how we missed this route in the morning!! However it was more obvious coming back, our excuse. Arrived back in similar time. We calculate about a 25 km hike over 5-6 hours. We (I) were starting to be concerned about our food intake, but no longer!!! It was an enjoyable walk, spectacular views, a very memorable place is Santorini.

Arrived back at happy hour, so consumed between us a couple of Mythos, they tasted sweet, with some salty chips. Also enjoyed the magnificent sunset from our balcony, watching the ships leave, sounding their horns to indicate their last trip for the season.

Returned to last nights restaurant for a much better evening meal. Restaurants and hotels are closing daily. We will turn out the lights when we leave Saturday!
