Falkirk Wheel
Starting position - transfer of boats Loooonnnggg flight. Air Transat has modeled their business platform after those successful sardine canning companies. The flight was smooth but we were packed in tight.
A little bumpiness but other wise very smooth.
We were wondering if the pilots had made a wrong turn over Greenland because after landing in Glasgow there was a slight sprinkle & then the clouds cleared out and we had blue skies over Edinburgh.
Check the map...we are in Scotland right?
The first stop was at the Falkirk Wheel. Nope it is not a tire swing in a farmers field. It is an engineering marvel.
Designed to connect the canal system between Glasgow & Edinburgh it raises and lowers boats over 35 meters. Extremely quiet and very smooth.
Elke was in the gift shop and didn't see it run the first trip, so I asked them to spin it again so she could watch. No problem they started it up right away.
Now where in the US or Canada would that ever happen?
After the rainbow, we jumped back in to the car and a short hop away was Edinburgh and the Royal Mile.
Ahhhhh like being
home again. Dropped off the luggage and headed out onto High Street for a quick lunch at The Whiski Bar, again..4th trip to Edinburgh, 4th time to this bar.
Who knew that Elke would get Haggis before me? But the fish & chips were awesome!
So what to do now?
What else???? but buy a kilt!!! (8 yards, Campbell of Argyll Modern tartan, Locharron Mill)
It will be delivered in 5 weeks. (Thanks for the help Ann & Robb)
A slow walk up the mile to THE CASTLE and back and we were pooped. Up @ 6:00 am went to work got on a plane drove around Scotland... 29 hours.. time for a room service dinner and then we will probably crash around 7.
Early start tomorrow off to the Kingdom of Fife. Up the coast from Edinburgh to St Andrews (the old course) thru Anstruther (fish & chips) to Peterhead (north of Aberdeen).
Gotta go! My beef burger with haggis on top has just arrived!!
