The Delights of England

Although we live in England we don't always appreciate the things so close to home. Dave, my brother and partner Claire came for a visit from Australia and we showed them the local sites.

First we went to my favourite place, The Lake District, Cumbria. First stop, Ambleside to see the famous bridge house where a family of about 8 lived and the man of the house also conducted his carpentry business of making chairs.

Next stop we drove over the mountains from Grassmere to the Langdales, one of my favourite places, the views are amazing without having to climb the mountains on foot which was fine considering we had my 79 year old mum with us and I was recovering from a foot operation.
We ended the day by visiting Tarn Howes, a favourite haunt of my mum's.

The next day we went to Oxenhope, the starting place of the Worth Valley Railway. From there we visited Howarth, the birth place of the author Charlotte Bronte. Next stop onto Wycoller, a tiny village in Lancashire.

We attempted to end the day with a Bar B Q in the garden, but soon after lighting it the rain came, undeterred we carried on regardless and with a good helping of wine and beer a good time was had by all!

The following weekend Dave and Claire's flight to Zurich was delayed so with a day to spare,we took them to Malham, in the Yorkshire Dales. Here we climbed the waterfall at Goredale Scar and eventually found the limestone pavement at Malham Cove.
A drink in a tiny, typical english pub ended the day nicely.

On Monday morning we dropped Dave and Claire off at Manchester Airport to continue their journey to South America via Zurich and Cuba.

As we dropped them off we dreamed of Christmas when we would again be here to begin our trip to Thailand.
