Sunday September 21, 2014 Sorrento – Isle of Capri We started our morning with a wonderful breakfast at our hotel, with fresh pastries, fruit and great coffee – Americano…they call it very strong. We hiked down the hill and down to the marina to catch our boat to the island. The cruise takes about 20 minutes and lands you on the north side of the island at marina Grande. Dan put together our hike to the middle part of the island, the start of many stairs for the day. The weather was beautiful and many people arriving and leaving from the Marina. The island is very large and rocky and beautiful. With many narrow paths and a variety of flowers and trees. The whole Amafli coast is noted for lemons. We have attached a picture of one the many lemon stands we passed by. That is Sherry’s hand next to the large lemons! The island is a vacation spot for Europe. We heard many different languages and saw a number of very nice hotels. We also saw numerous large cruisers docked and coming in to the island.
We made our way to the halfway point and then
headed to the south side, to the beaches. We used are gaps on our phones and finally figured out the right path. We found a very nice restaurant tucked along the beach. Looked the restaurant serviced the docked cabin cruisers out in the bay; because the pricing was the most expensive we have seen. We decided we would swim at the beach and enjoy the view. The water was great but the beach was very small stones and hurt your feet. We got done swimming and made the climb back up. I bet we did several thousand steps before the day was over.
Once at that top, the piazza was bustling with shoppers, cruisers (two cruise ships had docked). Again, here we go again, scooters, buses, and taxis all coming down the road and your are walking on about 24” of sidewalk. We found our original path down and took the wrong turn, but we did get to see a different side on the way down. We made back the marina and our boat by the 3:35 pm dock time and headed back to Sorrento. Dan got some good pictures today – some the two good!!
Once in
Sorrento, we made the hike back up from the beach, another 130 steps – straight up to the main piazza (see the attached picture). As we head back to the hotel, we made a great decision for our feet; we are staying at the hotel tonight and eating at the restaurant.
Great decision to stay at the hotel and have supper. Wonderful service and great meal of seafood, raviolis, linguini and meatloaf. Dan tried the Wiener schnitzel and it could have been better. Great desert and coffee….We headed back to the room and get packed for an early departure. Wonderful TV – we can found an NFL game – Redskins and Eagles.
Leaving Sorrento in the morning and off to Florence –
Doug & Sherry and Dan & Jane…

Still keeping tabs on you, following your posts. Vikings lost today again. Cassell got hurt in the 2nd period and Teddy Bridgewater played. He was pretty good. I can see him starting the next game. Bad penalty of roughing the passer turned the game around when we were doing OK.
