It's hard to believe it is August. Here in Oregon we've been bundled up. The days are around 65 degrees and the nights are cool. We must say it is a change from the 90 degree temperatures most of the country has seen.

We stopped at an Encore park in Mt. Hood on our trip to the coast. Tom wanted to see the Timberline Lodge, built during Roosevelt's presidency. At 12,000' elevation, needless to say it was a challenge for Tom. Just driving up the mountain was iffy. Fortunately we could park right in front of the lodge and take an elevator inside.

From there we went to the Monaco factory (now Allied Recreation) near Eugene, Oregon. The outside seam on the coach was repaired, along with some other "non-warranty" work. They did great work. Time for the Oregon coast.

Tom's lung disease is hibernating at sea level so we've decided to do the tourist thing here. We spent a week at the Newport Marina where Camp Host Clay greeted us and gave us a list of "must dos" while here. So thanks to Clay, here we go.

The Newport historical area is a working, touring, fishing port. We had lunch one day at Fishtails. Clay recommended Slumgolium. It was awesome. (Don't know, Google it. HA!)

Sunday we booked a Crab Charter. It was recommended by other tourists. What we found out, too late, was the day we went had rough seas once we left the Yaquiana Bay. Out of the six of us, I was the only one that didn't get seasick. Captain Sean really had his work cut out not letting the boat capsize. What a misadventure! Back to Clay's list...we did a scenic drive that took us to Devil's Punch Bowl. Viewing the Pacific Ocean on a clear day, grey whales were in view when they blew their spouts.

Our last day we did some shopping back at the Wharf and enjoyed a lite lunch at the Local Oceans Restaurant (thanks Clay.) We are now at Whaler's Rest Thousand Trails Resort, just down the road. Looking forward to driving the rest of the coast on our way back to Arizona for the winter.

Oregon Coast Summer
I enjoyed the blog reading and got a chuckle out of the crab charter. Sorry about all the sick folks and the rough seas that day. I think I would have been sick. Love the Oregon coast- enjoy. <3 We just parked at Lake of the Springs in I-3 for 21 days. It is on top, nice air up here, service (it is a bit touchy, but I grabbed it going by), an open site and should not be smokey. Bruce says he will hike down the hill to pitch shoes for practice- hmmmmm. That will be a stiff climb back up- not for me. I would drive. :-)
