good morning from my lovely little beachside motel room!
yesterday was a total contrast from morning to afternoon. In the morning I headed out early (due to jet lag not keenness) paired up my phone to my car, turned off my sat nav and headed towards to sea. I knew I had to go east then up and I was in no rush so I took it leisurely and I probably only knew where I was 2 or 3 times in the whole journey.
As I headed north I stopped off at beaches and parks, took photos, walked with my toes in the sea and got freckles on my nose. The beaches on the whole were empty with the occasional fisherman or leathery old lady. The water was absolutely flat and warm like soup. There weren't even breaking waves right at the shoreline In some places. The sand is so soft and hot - I plan to spend today, before the storms, topping up my tan.
The further north I headed the darker the sky got, and then came the monsoons! It rained and rained for hours. The roads were flooded and bits of Palm trees were being
blown around, it was a mess! Luckily I only had to drive in that for about 45 minutes before I got to Melbourne/Indiatlantic and my motel for the next few nights. I checked in, and headed out towards our old house.. just to have a look and see if it's the same. I didn't make it was far as that though, I decided to nip into a nail spa and get a manicure and pedicure. I figured that it is a necessity of being on holiday!
With my pretty new nails and feeling so relaxed I could melt, I popped to a few local stores to stock up on the essentials: beach towel, squirt, sailor Jerry's, water, new shoes and some cold and flu tablets (thanks for that mr church man from the plane!!!!)
I've been a little apprehensive about going to a proper restaurant on my own. I used to do it all the time with work and it was fine but I was always in places full of business types who were also eating on their own so it didn't feel weird. Last night I finally bit the bullet and went to my sisters favourite restaurant
in the world. They seated me in a corner where I could see the whole restaurant so I could do some good people watching and my waitress was awesome. I had the obligatory 99cents (56p) strawberry margaritas and pretty much took her recommendations for my meal. It was amazing and not that weird.. I'm sure I'll be used to it by the end of my trip.
I planned to write this blog yesterday but just fell fast asleep once I got in. There really is a lot to be said for a few days of solo travel here and there. I know I'm not exactly going off the beaten track, I lived about 3 miles away from where I am right now, but it's still quite liberating. I can do anything I want to do whenever I want to do it. I have nobody to answer to, no deadlines or places I need to be, no chores which need doing and it's bloody marvellous!!
Well, I'm off to the beach now.. Must not waste this sunshine!
