During my class at Faith the other day there was a distraction in the back of the class. Apparently the bench had broken and the two boys were trying to use their shoes to hammer it back together. These schools have very basic supplies and furnishings, but those still break and need to be replaced. It’s important for the children to have a working classroom. Dream Africa has quite a few projects and Jamal works so hard to keep them going. I may have only been here for 2 and half weeks, but I’ve fallen in love with these children and want to do everything that I can to help them succeed. I’ve already talked to Jamal about some ideas I’ve had that could help with fundraising. Currently on the DACF website there’s no easy way to make a donation, but he has someone working on that. I’m also trying to get my blog linked to the site. Things in Ghana are incredibly cheap, especially when converted from US dollars. A few dollars here and a few dollars there could really add up to make a difference. Jamal and I could get some benches and desks made for Faith Academy. The children at the fishing village could receive more supplies, and possibly one day a proper school. The children at the orphanage could get their mosquito nets treated with permethrin and might not get malaria so much. I’ve already donated the rest of my permethrin because I have money to get myself treated if I get malaria. All of these children were dealt a poor hand in life and none of it was their fault. They didn’t do anything wrong. Just because a girl was born with a handicap doesn’t mean she should be living in an orphanage.

It is a challenge and adventure at your age to decide what direction life will lead you after this time in Ghana. Keep blogging. Elaine ( Karen' mom)
