Well, "Hello" to those of you that are still following our journey. it's Saturday and we have finally had a slow start to the day. I, Lisa woke at 4.22am just a bit later this morning but after a while I did go back to sleep, which was well received by me & my family as I'm sure I was gonna be wearing my Cranky pants soon.
I know most days I'm generally not the best of sleepers but thought after all the walking we have done that we would be too exhausted to have sleeping issues but this was clearly not the case.
Graham and Girls woke quite a bit later, had breakfast from our meagre purchases from Walmart, yoghurt, Lucky Charms cereal (recommended by my nephew & niece) & some rank tasting grape juice thing that comes in a bag. Now I'm no Gourmet Chef but I'm always a little sceptical when liquid food is packaged in a bag..take a tip from me...it's never quite as appealing as the picture on the front cover!!
Apparently it was found that we had no cutlery, so cereal was consumed dry from a
Belle
From Beauty and the Beast. A bit of a honey. polystyrene coffee cup, coffee was stirred with a plastic stick & the end of a toothpaste tube makes an excellent yoghurt spoon... for Graham.
After our showers we were off on our 8 min walk to our Disneyland adventure for the day. Into the main gate, bags checked, photo's checked on the system & we were in.
It doesn't worry me but 11 yo Charlize isn't a fan of the bag check. She thinks it's a bit creepy when they move stuff around in your bag looking for banned items & doesn't like how they look at you when they ask ??'s. I must admit this dude was a bit unusual....he shook my glasses case, asked me what it was & was so disappointed when I opened it....SURPRISE it's my reading glasses. Happy I was not the concealing type of person, he grunted that we both could go through. Graham & Scarlett were in another line...they didn't have a worry getting through. At least he didn't opt for the cavity search!!
Belle (Beauty & the Beast) was waiting just inside the gate & she was beautiful. Not only in looks but
Astro Blaster
One of the gentler rides we went on also in her manner. She engaged with all the kids waiting in line and spoke to them directly asking various questions. Most of the characters have been fantastic but Goofy is still being snubbed by me. I still wanna trip him over thou it's probably his weekend off by now! It's just so hard to tell which one he is!!Clearly I seem to hold the odd grudge!! NEVER!!
If we thought Calfornia Adventure Park was big, then this seems much bigger. Disneyland is broken up into 9 areas. I think by the end of the day we only managed to get through 5.
We started by jumping on the horse drawn tram, which only took us a short distance then we had to get off. The first ride was Astro Orbitor which the girls enjoyed, we watched Captain EO, starring a young and relatively normal looking Michael Jackson (quite cringe worthing to watch) but Mr 80's-90's music fan seemed to enjoy this flashback in time. Graham chickened out of the Star Wars interactive 3D show (Charlize had a starring role...they used her image as part of the show...look out Hollywood we knew one of
us would be discovered in Lala land).Who's the coward now G?
General stroll around visiting as many characters as possible. Some food good, others are average but edible. Graham generally whines about the lack of decent food at these type of venues but he seemed to enjoy the tasteless burger & oil encrusted fries we had for lunch (it was yummy). Me, not so much, girls didn't really care as long as it was considered edible.
I was coerced into some random mini rollercoaster ride....bloody hell!!!! Quite a few expletives came from my very proper mouth (na really). These family members of mine just do not understand the fear I have of these rides. If I'm in the air suspended in space I'm fine...but this business of flying through dips and curves on tracks....bag please I need to vomit, ohhhh don't worry I just spewed up into my mouth!! Give me dodgem cars, tea cups and saucers, a merry go round, disco train ( not sure if this one still exists) & I'm in heaven....it's not like I don't go on any rides, I'm just very particular....!!
Walking around Disney Parks
Tower of Terror elevator
Just before Charlize and G went inside the elevator for the ride of our lives you get the sense that they have staff who work around the clock. The morning of our Goofy Breakfast at 6.15am we noticed a lot of people already at work. We saw gardeners, cleaners and all manner of projects going on. We could not believe the Lego Store in Disney had staff there unpacking huge amounts of stock as we walked by. This place just never stops.
By the end of the day we had seen so much yet still had so much to see. Dinner at the Disney restaurant and this time we managed to see the Fireworks display which was beyond spectacular. We even got to see Tinkerbell fly over the Disney Castle during the display. These fireworks are part of the show every night at 9.30pm & no expense is spared during this event. They are worth seeing at least once during your visit. We are lucky coz we get to see them from our hotel pool every night.
At 10.15pm we finally got in to the Pirates of the Carribbean ride. We had tried to ride earlier in the day, queued for approx 45mins and when we were approx 50
from the front an announcement was made that the ride was cancelled indefinitely. This time it was night time, dark and getting quite cool. Had we known there was some water involved then wetsuits may have been considered.
Scarlett didn't enjoy this one at all. She was shaking and her teeth were chattering, alll from fear. She was scared by all the dead bodies and skeletons on display. After she was convinced they were not real she then managed to enjoy the last 30seconds before we disembarked from the vessel.
Home, bed and do it all agin tomorrow......
Up at 8.00am & pretty much straight into it....second attempt today to get through all that we missed during our previous attempts. We can honestly say " if the attraction was open during our visit then we have done it"..maybe only three of the four of us but then who's counting...I'm not!
Soaring over California was on our to do list today & those handy Fast Passes make it easier to sort out your day. Just means more walking than standing around queuing. Lot's more ground to cover & get
Scarlett on Pluto's dog map
Channelling her inner doggie through as it is Sunday & so many families.
Aladdin musical was suggested by a fellow visitor. This was a great reprieve from all of the rides. Lot's of jokes laughs & songs. A great performance for the young & young at heart. Worth queuing for.
Straight afterwards it was back to the California Screamin' roller coaster for another two goes. G and the girls must have done this ride half a dozen times. The last time the girls had the front row which they reckon was fantastic, especially going fast downhill and when doing the loop.
Hopefully I will have lost a few kilos but the time we get back if this is indicative of the amount of walking we will be doing during this trip. No nasty food challenges for me thanks...you can rest assured this is G's fantasy not mine.
Enjoy the read & see you next time
Lisa xx
Ps.. Feel free to leave us a message on our blog, it lets us know who is reading & coming along for the ride.
