Tuesday afternoon I was just chilling at my home in London on standby for work and my phone rang for a trip to New York!!! So so so excited as I have never been and it's somewhere that I have wanted to tick off the travel list! So ran about like a madwoman getting organised, thankfully had time to check the weather as it's freezing there at the the moment so got the winter woollies packed! Quite a quick flight over the pond - only 7hours! Got to the hotel about midnight, local time, and had to fight the urge to simply put on my onesie and go to my bed. Was so tired! But powered on and met some of the crew for a little vino at the hotel then due to the late time of arrival we just headed round to the local Irish Bar. Typical, travel all the way here and go to an Irish bar but was a hoot! We were practically the only people in there. The barman was a young Irish lad who was travelling America and he was loving us. I kept it traditional on the Manhattan cocktails which mainly just consisted of just whiskey! So strong! The others thought I was crazy drinking it but being a Scot and all that, I loved them! Stayed there til closing at 4am then got ourselves some New York pizza for a drunken munch. Was amazing; at the time. Then bed for about 4 hours and up at 9am to explore the city. We went for breaky at a traditional American diner. I had a big stack of pancakes with syrup and blueberrys, mmmmm! Went for this option as I'd missed pancake day the day before, and America offers the real deal! Then I left the crew to go and meet one of my friends, called Danielle, that I had lived with in a hostel when I was in Sydney travelling 3 years ago! Such a small world. I love that with this job and from my previous travels I can go almost anywhere in the world and be able to meet friends. Danielle was an amazing tour guide showing me some of the main sights of Manhattan! We practically walked round the whole city. We went to The Rockefeller Plaza, Times Square, Madison Square Garden, Empire State Building, walked the High Line - which is an old railway line converted into a walkway that goes through the lower west side of Manhattan. Managed to see so much! We treated ourselves to a big American lunch at the ShakeShack! Had a burger, fries and vanilla shake. So good! Then walked back towards my hotel and went to Central Park. We said our goodbyes here and Danielle jumped onto the subway. Was so great to get to see her and nice of her to have been a tourist with me for the day. I had a little walk in the park, then walked along 5th avenue where all the designer shops such as Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana etc all were, and the famous Trump Towers! The weather turned so cold and I was exhausted so got myself couple souvenir bits then back to hotel. The location is fantastic! Managed to get a little hour siesta before heading back home to London. This trip was just such a brilliant surprise! Really wish could have stayed longer as there is so much to see and do. However, now I have had a little taster of New York and would definitely like to come back on holiday! Fabulous place! Alicia Keys does sum it up pretty well in Empire State of Mind - 'These streets will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you, Let's hear it for New York, New York, New Yooork!'
