Just a random shot of Dave today as we were walking around. He's got the backpack, I am navigating.
Well, we didn't do much today. We didn't even wake up until almost noon. And, it was about 55 degrees here today ... we are starting to think that we are not going to get much skiing in on this trip. Last night we had planned to catch the 8:30 ski shuttle this morning. Well, we didn't. Instead we took a "get acclimated day" and took it easy. There is a swimming pool / spa facility in Grainau, so we decided to walk there. It helped that the Garmich tourism committee had given us free admission in our welcome packet. So off we went to find this place and partake of the hot tub. We found it with no problems, following the signs, about a 30 minute walk from our hotel. And it was a very nice facility. We hot tubbed and then rested in the solarium until about 2:30 when we started back to our hotel. Along the way back, we decided to check out the church in Grainau - and it was worthy of a couple of pictures. There were several families out today tending the grave sites ... A lot of ice in the cemetery, but everyone seemed to be handling it pretty well.

We saw some quaint sites while we were out and about, and have some pictures of those. We also saw the cross country ski trails - about 20 KMs of those, but no one out today, and probably it won't be cold enough this week to help them. The weather forecast calls for warm weather but possibly some snow, so there is at least some hope.

As were walking around, we kept seeing 20-C-M-B-14 written on the tops of doors. Living in Davenport, I thought this was some sort of a German clearance sign telling tall folks to duck. for the record, I was good with this theory. Dave did some research when we got back to the hotel, and discovered that my theory was incorrect. This is instead a sign of house who is requesting blessings for the year, and invoked the initials of the magi (C,M,B) on the day of the Ephinany for the coming year. Interesting fact from today.

Tonight we had dinner in the hotel restaurant, very good, but not busy - seems like everyone but us has gone home for the weekend. The meal

I did have Dave check if we could steal it .... He didn't think it was a good idea
was very tasty, and we were hungry.

Tomorrow we plan on going up the Zugspitze - the cog railway that takes you to the highest point in Germany. Based on the weather predictions , we are looking for touring things to do - just in case. So far we think Salzberg and Innsbrook, but will have to see where we end up going.

Watching Eurosport and equestrian jumping tonight on TV while we do this ... Hope you had a great day!
