French Polynesian Cruise Day 1

Monday, Dec 9, 2013. I know how they felt at Ellis Island.

This morning at the airport, we book a two-hour cruise around town that will take us to our ship as a last stop. On the way we stop at a marae, alters of stone where the natives used to worship the ancient gods, a beach, a grotto, and a final stop at a museum.

Once at the pier, I concentrate on taking tiny shallow breaths so I won’t start coughing again and can make it past the medical teams. Dee Dee and I are both glad when we’re on board.

Our room is a 7^th floor balcony on the starboard side of the ship between mid-ship and aft. A good place to be as it turns out. After we sample the buffet, we spend the rest of the afternoon unpacking. That’s a bit of a challenge just because there isn’t a lot of storage space. We fill every available space with our stuff. Dinner that night is again painful because of my racking coughs which seem to be set off when I drink anything cold. It is not only embarrassing, I am scared I’ll be quarantined for the rest of the journey. It’s open seating in the dining room and we meet some lovely people. And then lights out.
