Camp site at Crown Villa RV Resort with a view of the dog park David and Patsy arrived late Saturday September 28. We met them for breakfast Sunday, due to the rain we came back to the RV park to watch Texan Football. That evening we went to dinner and a movie.
Monday after another fabulous breakfast at The Victorian we headed to Mt. Bachelor for some sightseeing. We didn't get far before we came upon the road closed sign. We realized what all that rain on Sunday had meant to the Mountain, it was snowed in and hadn't been plowed yet. We learned later in Sisters that that was the earliest snow of that size in years. We headed back down the road and made some stops at a few of the parks and enjoyed the rapids along the Deschutes River. There is rafting on the river only with guides because there are several level VI rapids along the way. We also went to Lava Lands Visitor center and went to the top of Lava Butte Trail. Amazing views.
Tuesday Pat, Leisel and I packed up and we all drove over to Sisters. Before we left Bend we stopped at a city park along the Deschutes River that winds through town to

The dog park at Crown Villa look at a unique metal sculpture of two draft horses pulling a log. All of the metal was scrap including a sewing machine heart and a chain saw inside the log. We ate lunch in Sisters along Main street at a quaint Russian cafe and David and I tried Borscht. Very good. We did some shopping before we went to The Lodge at Suttle Lake. It was tucked into the Deschutes National Forest, it had first opened in 1929. We shared a cabin with a loft.
Wednesday we drove to Black Butte trailhead and hiked up a short path to enjoy the views of the snow covered mountains.
Thursday on the way back to Bend we stopped to shop a little more and enjoy the wonderful sunshine with a glass of wine and flatbread. We said our goodbyes before we headed back. They had an early flight Friday and we were headed to Redding, CA. It was so great to have David and Patsy with us for a week. We enjoyed telling stories and laughing about memories.
As we were getting ready to leave Bend we had to break up ice to close up the slide outs

Sunset on the Deschutes River to get them closed. It was time to head for warmer weather.
One story I must tell about Oregon before I move on to California is, Oregon is one of only two states that it is "against the law" to pump your own gas. Who knew? New Jersey is the other. The first night Nicole, Pat and I were in Portland we pull up to the pump and Pat gets out and pumps our gas. The attendant comes running up and tells us its against the law and she had stepped away for a moment for a potty break or she would have told us sooner. There were no signs posted so luckily we didn't get reported and get a fine. It was something we had to keep in mind every time we filled the car up because it is such a habit.
We were greeted as we approached Redding, CA with amazing views of Mt. Shasta. We stayed at Premier Resorts RV park there. Saturday we headed over to the Farmers Market after a great breakfast at De Javu. Sunday we went to Mass and then over to the Sundial Bridge across the Sacramento River. It was

A bit of fall in Bend a unique walking bridge with opaque green tiles and a huge sundial casting the shadow over to mosaic tile markers several feet away.
Monday we drove to Morgan Hill and celebrated our 40th anniversary at a wonderful restaurant called Odeum. We have spent the last few days relaxing and enjoying the sunshine and 75 degree weather
We leave here on monday for Anaheim to spend a couple of weeks with Will and Renee'.
