Summer is coming to an end and the leaves in New England are all turning to different shades of yellows, golds and reds. It's a beautiful time of the year, one that Sally and I both miss very much. The fall colors have already peaked in parts of Northern New England and are progressing slowly southward. Sally and I are getting ready to leave Connecticut and head back to Phoenix next Tuesday and we wanted to take a trip north to see the fall colors in Vermont. It's also the only state in New England that we haven't traveled to yet so we decided to head off for a two day trip to the Waterbury/Stowe area of north central Vermont. We left the campground Monday morning and headed up interstate 91 thru western Massachusetts into Vermont. Our first stop was the Kringle Candle Company in Bernardston, Massachusetts. The founder of the company is the same individual that started Yankee Candle. From there we headed into Vermont and headed north along winding country roads. We spent Monday night in Waterbury Vermont and enjoyed being able to stretch out in a king size bed again. Sure felt good!! Got up Tuesday morning and it was a beautiful sunny day. Monday had been overcast and we had run into some fog and rain on our trip north, but the weather was sunny and cool on Tuesday with temperatures in the mid 40's. We headed up to Stowe where we toured the Von Trapp Family Lodge. The Von Trapp Family is the Austrian family from the movie 'The Sound of Music'. After escaping Nazi Occupies Austria the family made their way to Vermont where they built a home and built the Lodge above the town of Stowe. From there it was back to Waterbury where we toured the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream factory. The tour lasted about thirty minutes and ended in the tasting room where we had a sample of Ben & Jerry's Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream. Not that I need any since I've gained a few pounds this summer. Whether I needed it or not....it was sure good. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Nice!
Jim, good job on showing us the fall colors of Vermont. Such a beautiful area. You truly had a great summer in New England which makes me even more envious of your situation while sitting here in my cube. I'd love a trip up there in the fall. Maybe one day...
