Blarney Castle, Ireland
Been there, kissed that! Was Ireland better or Scotland better?
So many things to consider before i pick a winner, let me run through my highlights.
To really get in the mood I suggest putting on some of our road trip anthems. Also, if I'm boring you, at least the music is good. I recommend one of these,
Roar - Katy Perry
Jack - Breach
Talk Dirty - Jason Derulo
Right, music sorted? Awesome, let the road trip reflection begin!
Ireland!l
Driver: Me
Navigator/DJ : Amanda
Plan: Head south from Dublin, hit the coastline, see some castles
Trip motto: Lets not kill each other
Fun bits We spent an afternoon
Gap of Dunloe, Ireland
Spent a day walking through here in a little coastal town called Ardmore where we did a cliff walk in the rain which was pleasantly refreshing!
Blarney Castle! We hung upside down over a sheer drop to kiss the Blarney Stone at the top of the castle. Kissing the stone bestows the gift of eloquence, whoop whoop, just what I needed! Now this was a cool castle, with beautiful grounds.
We passed real gypsy's on the road ridding their horse and carriage ( like on the show My Big Gypsy Wedding ) that was exciting!
The scones!
Killarney area at the start of the Ring of Kerry, we walked the Gap of Dunloe here which was absolutely beautiful.
Loved the drive around Dingle Peninsula, Inch Beach was so peaceful, not another person there. Viking territory! Really cool old stuff.
Inch Beach Ireland
This is on the Dingle Peninsula The Cliffs of Moher were pretty!
The coast drive up to Galway was so different to the rest of the coast line, very rocky, but again, very pretty.
Trinity college in Dublin was great, highly recommend their tour.
Hot gingers!
Not so fun bits Kilkenny was our first castle stop and truthfully, it was a dead boring castle! From the outside it was impressive looking, from the inside it lacked character, atmosphere and any cool castle things I was expecting. Kilkenny itself was very cute town.
Trying to figure out which 'Kill' town we were in. There was Kilkenny, Kilmaganny, Kill, Killeagh, Kilbrittain, Killarney, Killorglin, Killimer, Kilkee, Kilcock ( hehe ), Kildare, Killingmesoftly etc..... Ok, maybe I made the last one up, but all the others are real and they were just some of the ones we drove through.
Guinness, how do you make beer taste even more like crap? Easy, call it Guinness!
The Guinness tour was
Ireland
It was just so green, loved it. worth doing, I learnt that Mrs Guinness had 21 children!! ( Thats 16 years of being pregnant) She's smart you know, my guess is she stayed pregnant so she didn't have to drink the Guinness. Then when she wasn't pregnant she drank it, got her beer googles on, and made another baby. Mr Guinness was not an attractive man.
Scotland Drivers: Me and Bree
Navigator/ DJ: Amanda
Plan: Head north from edinburough and hit the coast!
Trip motto: Beautiful faces, you can't script that shit, WINNING!! (inside joke, you had to be there, Bree, Amanda, you better have laughed)
Fun bits Edinburgh was a gorgeous city. Everything looks super medieval.
Looking for Nessie on the Loch-ness was lots of fun, the Loch Ness exhibition itself was really good!! Did you know Nessie was first spotted in 565AD by St Columbia while he took a swim? And that in 1987 Operation Deepscan was the largest search for the monster costing over £1 million? Am I believer? Of course, I also believe there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and that Santa is
real!
The day spent driving around the Isle of Skye, breath taking! Absolutely spectacular!! Perfect weather, perfect company, by far one of my favourite days. We walked around Quiraing (rock formations), explored Faerie Glen, went to Claigan beach ( that actually looked like a real beach ), visited a light house, stopped at a craft market, seen the Old Man of Storr and Kilt Rock and sooo much more!
Shortbread!
The drive on the coastline above Isle of Skye was also beautiful. Bree drove in tough conditions in thick fog over some mountain range where we stopped for lunch in a cute pub in a town called Applecross.
Haggis, that stuff is actually good.
Not so fun bits Sitting in 'North Point' cafe in St Andrews where Prince William and Kate met and realising there is no Prince having coffee with you!
Not being able to walk up Ben Nevis (UK's highest point) because of the weather! Dam rain!
Whiskey! Seriously, if I had to guess what ass tasted like I'd say have swig of whiskey!
Eilean Donan Scotland
Built in the 13th century as a defence against Vikings. No shit!!
Not so hot gingers!
Winner by category;Best coastline: Scotland! Isle of Skye!
Best accent: Ireland, it's so sexy, even if I don't know what they are saying
Best scones: Ireland
Best road trip company: Scotland
Best coffee: neither, they are equally bad, now I know why they are all tea drinkers
Overall winner.......... Me!!! Because I got to do them both!!!
